Trim Engineering Technician

Location: Plymouth, MI

Duration: 1 year with possible extension

Job Description, Required Skills, Education, Experience:

Will be assisting in the ''cut & sew'' function in the business.

Candidates should have the ability to hand cut small components such as J-retainers, hook and loop, plastic parts, etc.

Should have basic computer skills with the ability to learn and be trained on how to run CNC material cutter.

Assist in clerical duties such as PLM updates and trim cover bill of material updates.

Must have the ability to lift and move seating components and material rolls.

Experience in the field of trim cover design and/or manufacturing is desired but not required.

Upholstery work and/or work in the tent and awning field desired

High School Diploma Required

No previous experience required - manufacturing assembly experience preferred

Job specific training will be provided

Need to have:

Basic understanding of computers, willingness to learn the process. The ability to lift seats and fabrics. Hand cut certain fabrics and build/dissasemble automotive seats.

Experience in the automotive industry, manufacturing/assembly experience, sewing experience.

Education:

HS diploma required.

Manager is seeing a lot of CNC machine operators and machinists. Although that skill may help in the job, and we will look at them as potential employees, I have been asked to add upholstery work and/or work in the tent and awning field to the desired skills or experience.

VIEW JOBS 9/9/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-08T00:00 JOB DESCRIPTION Overview The intern will be pursuing a degree in engineering and work in product design with good communication skills to work on vehicle complete seat systems. The intern will provide technical customer interface for the program and/or product and must demonstrate the ability to plan, organize and deliver engineering program requirements. Responsibilities include: * Executing robust designs, manufacturing feasibility, high quality on drawing releases, prototype parts and production parts. * Balancing multiple requirements from differing internal functional groups. * Subject matter Experts and the customer to find optimized technical solutions to meet objectives such: as costs, performance , timing and launch. Duties: * Help solve design issues by utilizing the Basic Engineering Process (BEP) process and his knowledge of lean engineering. Complete A3's which were presented in weekly and executive design reviews for these issues. * Help prepare documentation and gather data for engineering xSO signoff. Exposure to the product development process and interact with Subject Matter Technical Experts (SMTEs) throughout the assignment. * Support issue resolution and on-time execution for DV & PV testing phases by coordinating test timing, seat builds, and teardowns. This exposure allows for acquisition of knowledge in seat regulations, strength, durability, and tactical planning. * Support customer and DV/PV test builds here in Plymouth. Exposure to Design For Assembly and Manufacturing (DFAM) principles. Gain understanding of the interaction between design and manufacturing in product development and key cost drivers. * Acquire knowledge in Design for Cost to evaluate various engineering design changes in CAD while at the same time understanding the cost impact of those changes. This enables the team to assess the impact of changes in the ideation phase while still understanding a high level cost impact of those changes.
