Job Description

The Litigation Services Attorney job family is responsible for managing Insurance Defense and Tort Litigation / Disputes work and related issues/matters.

Represents insureds and the Company in the defense of bodily injury and property damage lawsuits, subrogation, and Allstate Financial cases. Prepares for and conducts hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions. Prepares and argues pre and post-trial motions. Assists colleagues in the resolution of calendar conflicts. , Provides counsel to business clients on day to day issues. Monitors and reviews new laws, regulations, and case law; identifies and summarizes relevant issues; collaborates with other areas of L&R department; proactively provides advice and counsel to business unit on the impact of new laws on business; monitors counsel

Key Responsibilities

  • Review new file assignments and approve initial pleadings, propounds discovery, and develop strategy

  • Contact clients

  • Review all documentary evidence

  • Prepares witnesses and clients for depositions, arbitrations, mediations and trials including expert witnesses

  • Conduct depositions and examinations under oath and prepares summary documents

  • Prepare and conduct court appearances (matter management conferences, hearings, status conferences, etc.)

  • Conduct settlement/dispositive proceedings (e.g. mediations, arbitrations, etc.)

  • Try and/or arbitrate cases

  • Prepare motions in limine and summary documents

  • Draft post-trial motions

  • Prepare for and participate in appeals

  • Investigate and pursue subrogation litigation as appropriate

Job Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience

  • Possesses a juris doctorate and a license to practice law in New York

  • 3-5 years related experience in insurance defense

  • Experience with PIP, Subrogation, No Fault, or Bodily Injury Litigation preferred

  • Computer skills including MS Office suite

  • Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information

  • Demonstrates ethics and integrity

Management & Supervisory Skills

  • Budget management skills

  • Project management skills

  • Able to interact with all levels of personnel

  • Utilizes subject matter expertise to coach and guide less experienced team members

  • Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

As a Document Review Specialist, you will be accountable for processing CIB Markets related documentation including ISDAs and subsequent amendments, Credit Support Annexes, OTC Addendums, Dodd Frank Protocols as well as other local jurisdiction agreements. Participation on various documentation operational improvement projects and integration of new tools will also be required to enhance overall processes. We are looking for an individual who has the enthusiasm and passion for driving change, a desire to improve the client experience, and a commitment to service excellence. Key Responsibilities * Manage Markets documentation workflow from the point of submission from legal or credit, including tracking and escalations as applicable. * Responsible for interpreting metadata from documentation and engaging Legal and Credit as necessary. * Partner with Internal business partners, such as Legal, Product, Sales, Relationship Managers and Client Service. * Manage issues and ensure appropriate onward escalation and timely resolution. * Provide recommendations and suggestions to address problems, process efficiencies etc. * Ensure accurate completion of documentation within the internal service level agreements, and/or client request due dates and also to allow for accurate future retrieval requests can be performed according to data points as necessary and downstream trading can occur * Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to multiple levels of management and various stakeholders in Operations, Technology, Sales/Relationship Management, Risk, Legal, etc. * Ability to follow up on assignments in a timely manner, exercise good judgment and work accurately under pressure. Qualifications * Undergraduate degree and minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience, and a paralegal certification is preferable * Knowledge of Markets Trading and derivatives products and corresponding documentation including a broad understanding of legal terms and principles within the following documents in particular: ISDAs and subsequent amendments, Credit Supports Annexes, OTC Addendums, and Dodd Frank Protocols. * Prior management experience of teams of 5 or more managing diverse processes * Analytical mind, able to review and analyze information from multiple sources and determine relevancy to specific issues and work with appropriate business partners to resolve. * Proven risk awareness with ability to escalate and manage potential risk, control and procedure orientated * Excellent interpersonal skills including team development, mid-size management experience both direct and remotely. * Excellent organizational and time management skills. * Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. * Experience with implementing process improvement and/or demonstrated experience with efficiency improvement. * Ability to work under pressure, prioritize work flow, handle deadlines and manage multiple tasks. * Strategic thinker, results oriented, and self-motivated * Experience in leading, partnering and operating in geographically distributed work groups * Proficient with Microsoft Office products to include: Excel, Power point, and Word * Excellent verbal, written interpersonal and organizational skills.
