About the role:

Refinery29 is looking for a Trending Editor to run quick turnaround trending news content across verticals. This editor will report to the Director of Content Strategy and work closely with each vertical director (entertainment, news, fashion, beauty, work & money, wellness, lifestyle) to help ensure timely, comprehensive coverage of the day's news in each section.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent collaborator, have experience in each of the relevant verticals, and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment. They will have excellent news judgement and a nose for big stories, a sense of urgency and speed, and a clear understanding and mastery of Google Trends, search engine optimization, and distribution strategy.

What you'll do:

  • Build a team of freelance writers with expertise in each of the relevant verticals from news to fashion to beauty to lifestyle

  • Assign, edit, and publish 8-10 stories a day

  • Work collaboratively with vertical directors and content strategy team to coordinate coverage on the day's trending news

  • Help the team hit our monthly traffic goals, working closely with the content strategy team and analytics team to help make strategic performance decisions

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Keynote, Google Calendar
