Starting Salary Range $52,723 - $71,733

Job Summary: The Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for operating, managing, and controlling the daily activities associated with the Stormwater/Wastewater Treatment Facility (SWTF). Other responsibilities include ensuring compliance with MNAA's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).

Essential Job Duties:

  • Ensures compliance with MNAA's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).

  • Operates supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for water treatment facility operation and inspection.

  • Analyzes real-time data collected from various measuring devices, including flow meters, dissolved oxygen meters, and conductivity meters to make operational decisions in the water treatment facility to protect the environmental stewardship of the airport.

  • Monitors industrial activity and weather forecasts to anticipate flows and concentrations to be received by stormwater piping and collection systems.

  • Maintains operation of mechanical valves, flow control piping, aerators, return sludge pumping system, and other sensitive instrumentation to ensure each is good working order.

  • Performs regular (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly) monitoring (on-site and remote) of the water treatment facility and stormwater outfalls.

  • Produces written and oral reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Applies Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety principles to maintain safe operation of water treatment facility.

  • Coordinates with other MNAA employees and outside consultants.

  • Uses sample collection results to guide operating conditions and create treatment processes.

  • Maintains quality control and assurance.

  • Records data and analytical results in the MNAA Environmental Management System.

  • Plans and schedules improvements by using an in-house work order system and outside specialized contractors.

  • Develops and improves operation and preventative maintenance procedures to ensure effective performance and longevity.

  • Maintains internal and external working relationships with MNAA employees and federal, state, and local environmental regulators.

  • Prepares operational and maintenance budget requests for changes and improvements.

  • Operates special equipment i.e., forklift, bobcat, etc. to maintain facility grounds, as required.

  • Attends training classes as required to improve job skills.

  • Maintains regular and on-time attendance.

  • Follows all safety regulations.

  • Basic Science: Knowledge of basic science principles, including biology, environmental science, and chemistry.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, or related field.

  • 4-7 years biological treatment plant operation or related experience.

  • Valid CLASS D Driver's License

  • Tennessee Wastewater Operator Certification

  • OSHA Chemical Spill Response Training in accordance with 29CFR1910(q). (Within 90 days after hire)

  • Airfield Operations Area Driving License (Within 180 days after hire)

  • OSHA Confined Space Certification (Within 180 days after hire)

Preferred:

  • 7-10 years biological treatment plant operation or related experience.
