Position Summary:This position is an integral part of the Treasury team reporting to the Treasurer. This position plays a key role in analyzing and producing value add reporting to management related to the Bank's capital, liquidity, and interest rate risk positioning.
Essential Responsibilities:Job Function 1: Asset Liability Management

  • 30%

Collaborate with external consultants and manage internal processes to run quarterly EVE and NII ALM modeling.
Review and challenge modeling assumptions and develop stress scenario inputs.
Enhance and develop reporting tools to communicate interest rate and liquidity risk drivers to internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with senior management and ALCO on the development of interest rate risk management strategies.
Partner with enterprise risk and other internal stakeholders to communicate our interest rate risk positioning and strategy.
Maintain meeting minutes for Asset Liability Committee and sub-committee meetings.
Ensure assigned internal controls are completed on a timely basis.

Job Function 2: Balance Sheet & Liquidity Management, Analysis, and Reporting

  • 25%

Create and maintain regular internal financial reporting and value add analysis related to balance sheet positioning, liquidity, net interest income, and other bank profitability metrics.
Perform attribution analysis and composition analysis related to changes in net interest income and the bank's balance sheet composition.
Analyze and develop strategies related to the bank's investment portfolio, loans, deposits, and funding structure.
Monitor, maintain, and optimize asset pledging to meet collateralization and liquidity needs.
Identify and assist in implementing strategies to expand bank liquidity.
Collaborate with the business on loan and deposit opportunity terms and structuring.
Support funds transfer pricing (FTP) modeling to fairly allocate funding sources between business units.
Improve and maintain liquidity modeling including liquidity forecasts and contingency funding planning.
Monitor, maintain, and optimize asset pledging to meet collateralization and liquidity needs.
Identify and assist in implementing strategies to expand bank liquidity.

Job Function 3: Forecasting

  • 25%

Improve and maintain net interest income and other bank revenue forecasting utilizing a variety of inputs from external economic and internal sources.
Develop and improve scenario analysis and stress testing to assess bank profitability and risk profile under various economic and stress scenarios.
Improve and maintain liquidity modeling including liquidity forecasts and contingency funding planning.

Job Function 4: Ad Hoc Analysis

  • 20%

Utilize resources such as S&P Capital IQ and Bloomberg to analyze how Alerus' financial performance compares to peers.
Provide support and thought leadership on ad hoc analysis such as balance sheet transactions, profitability analysis, and capital and liquidity scenarios.
Partner with Treasurer to present strategic findings to executive leadership and board of directors.
Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, and others in the organization as needed.
Develop Axiom reports and other analytical tools to measure and analyze revenue and expenses as needed.
Support new business initiatives as needed.

Position Requirements:Qualifications:

7-10 years of financial services, ALM, and banking industry experience.
Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
MBA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter, or progress towards preferred.
In-depth knowledge of bank balance sheet and Asset Liability Management.
Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems.
Ability to communicate to executive leadership.
S&P Global Market Intelligence experience.
Microsoft products: Excel, Access, Word, Power Point.

Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • Must be met with or without a reasonable accommodation:

Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
