Summary of Position:

The Treasury Management Merchant Services Sales Officer is responsible for identifying, analyzing, selling and supporting deposit, treasury management and merchant services products and services to established business customers and targeted prospective corporate clients. Works closely with relationship officers in attaining deposit goals and non-interest income goals. Responsible for customer retention efforts by providing a superior level of customer service. Responds to a Request for Proposal (RFP); assesses customer needs and recommends effective strategies; performs a cost benefit and risk analysis; negotiates pricing to optimize profitability of product or service solutions. Contributes to the Bank's deposit growth strategies and goals; generates additional revenue from the sale of cash management products and services; attains established individual, department and Bank goals through active participation in sales management and officer call programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Developing client relationships to gather deposits and sell treasury management services across the Bank's footprint

  • Meeting with Commercial Relationship Managers to review their accounts and identify prospects for cash deposits and treasury management services

  • Scheduling and completing calls on existing clients and prospects in order to develop new deposit, treasury management, and other referral business

  • Regularly meeting with clients to review and expanding business through client growth, additional services, and relationship consolidation

  • Developing new business opportunities through referrals from existing clients, natural markets and business partners, or interaction with other external resources including COIs

  • Making regular calls on prospects, either independently or with a relationship manager, to generate high quality new treasury management and deposit business to achieve or exceed specific production goals

  • Maintaining data systems regarding opportunities for differentiation at the client level, sales calls, pipelines, closed sales, etc. to enable the generation of monthly activity reports

  • Identifying credit, merchant services and consumer referrals to partners

  • Driving increased product usage of established Treasury Management clients

  • Ensuring appropriate pricing and revenue yield on new and established relationships

Become a trusted advisor to our clients and prospects through the following:

  • Leveraging bank experts to establish Bankwell as a thoughtful and trusted advisor on deposit and treasury management topics

  • Developing a deep understanding of client structure, cash flow, banking relationships, processes, costs, and pain points to develop compelling proposals

  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, best practices, competitors' products and pricing in the market served

  • Keeping current on new product and product enhancement information/training from treasury management product staff

Ensure industry-leading client experience in partnership with service organization by:

  • Serving as a point of escalation for operational problems reported by clients and drives resolution in a timely manner

  • Proactively addressing attrition risks by addressing concerns with clients and escalating internally as necessary

  • Partnering with Client Onboarding Manager to prepare agreements in order to establish new client services; performing timely follow-up to ensure client satisfaction

Helps build Bankwell's presence and capabilities by:

  • Partnering closely with Marketing; reviewing market research data to build prospect lists within industry types or geographic locations

  • Assisting in the design of treasury management services by providing data from the market on strengths and weaknesses of existing services and new product needs not currently met

  • Attending and participating as speaker at conferences/tradeshows to build Bankwell's brand

  • Participating in community civic and business organizations to help establish the Banks' presence and develop prospects

  • Recommending treasury management products to Senior Management

Qualifications, Experience, Job Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong treasury management sales experience

  • Strong business development skills and experience

  • Must have bank operations experience and presently be a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP)

  • Interpersonal skills a must, with the ability to deal with challenging situations and customers; ability to function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and rapidly expanding environment

  • Met or exceeded goals in previous positions and has a solid working knowledge of bank products and service

  • Strong sense of integrity and personal ethics

  • Detailed oriented with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.

  • College degree preferred

  • 4 + years of financial services or commercial real estate experience with at least 3 years in sales

  • Maintains enhanced writing skills required to write proposals and manage the RFP/RFI process and responses

  • Exhibits strong verbal communication skills for effective selling and presentations

  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of treasury management products and services

  • Shows sound judgement in assessing risk factors associated with sales opportunities and requires minimal advice or guidance due to experience

  • Displays the ability to solve more difficult problems related to sales and only requires guidance occasionally

  • Possesses the ability to develop a sales plan and strategy requiring minimal guidance
