Job Description Job Description THIS POSITION REQUIRES TRAVELING Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and experienced Excavator Operator to join our directional drilling team. The Excavator Operator will play a crucial role in supporting horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations by preparing job sites, digging entry and exit pits, and assisting with the installation of underground utilities.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction or drilling industry, a strong understanding of safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Rapid Wire LLC is based in Arvada, CO but we currently have a long-term job in Montana that we need an Excavator Operator for. We provide housing and a daily per diem while working in MT.
Our team will remain in MT through the end of summer. Key Responsibilities Operate Excavator Machinery: Safely and efficiently operate excavators to perform tasks such as digging entry and exit pits for drilling operations, trenching for utility installations, and backfilling.
Site Preparation: Prepare and level construction sites, ensuring that they meet the specifications required for directional drilling operations. Support Drilling Operations:
Assist the drilling team with the placement of conduits, pipes, and cables as per project requirements. Material Handling: Load and unload materials, equipment, and tools as needed to support drilling operations.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance checks on the excavator, ensuring it is in good working condition and reporting any issues to the supervisor. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Collaboration: Work closely with drill operators, site supervisors, and other construction workers to complete projects on time and within budget. Documentation: Maintain accurate logs and records of daily work activities, equipment usage, and any incidents.
Qualifications Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience operating excavators, preferably in the directional drilling or construction industry. Licenses/Certifications:
Valid excavator operator certification and/or commercial driver's license (CDL) is a plus Knowledge: Understanding of directional drilling operations, construction site protocols, and equipment maintenance procedures. Skills: Proficiency in operating various types of excavators.
Strong hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, and drilling plans. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions. Stamina to perform repetitive tasks and stand for long periods.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with directional drilling projects and familiarity with HDD equipment. Knowledge of GPS and other advanced control systems for precision excavation. Certification in trench safety and confined space entry.
Working Conditions Work is primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Overtime and weekend work may be required depending on project deadlines.
