The travel nurse for Health Sciences will join a diverse team tasked with addressing fluctuating staffing needs. As a full time faculty member, the role will serve as dedicated nursing faculty, offering academic support to students throughout their educational journey. This includes traveling between campuses to address short-term faculty staffing needs. Additionally, the role will provide curriculum support, delivering both academic and clinical instruction to enhance student learning.

This position entails a commitment for the full academic year, with potential opportunities for continued employment beyond this period.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in nursing. Note: degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.

  • Must hold a current, unrestricted North Carolina license to practice as a registered nurse, or compact licensure.

  • Two calendar years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse.

  • Two years of teaching experience.

  • Must maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility.

  • Have current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse (and the licensed practical nurse).

  • Understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the College.

  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and collaboration apps and software.

  • Willingness to travel and adapt to different work settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) encouraged.

Essential Duties

Teaching and Learning:

  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the Program Coordinator and approved by the Director and Dean.

  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing appropriate, meaningful, and inclusive instructional activities that maximize equitable student outcomes.

  • Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACSCOC-approved competencies.

  • Fulfill the duties of clinical instructor in the supervision of students as applicable.

  • Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.

  • Meet with students regarding academic progress.

  • Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology; diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and among your team.

  • Demonstrated practice of fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom and among your team, as well as experiencing working in a diverse environment.

Curriculum Development:

  • Assist in the maintenance, review, and updating of course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary.

  • Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise.

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing curriculum.

Advising:

  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of student admission, progression, and graduation requirements of the nursing system.

  • Assist advisees, including use the computer and the College's student information system.

  • Participate in department, division, and college-wide advising activities.

  • Learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.

Professional Development:

  • Develop a professional development plan that is approved by the Director and Dean, and participate in those activities that achieve approved professional development activities.

  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position.

  • Maintain membership and participation in professional organizations.

  • Read professional literature.

  • Keep abreast of current technology.

  • Attend workshops, conferences, and professional meetings.

  • Participate in on-campus professional development activities.

Instructional Services:

  • Adhere to all instructional policies and procedures.

  • Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings.

  • Serve on committees as required.

  • Participate in college-wide activities.

Language Skills:

  • Read written communication and analyze and interpret both verbal and written communications.

  • Respond coherently both verbally and in writing to students, co-workers, and individuals having contact with College.

  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies , or business community members.

  • Present information effectively to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram from and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
