ABOUT THE POSITION
Transportation/Traffic Engineer - Design | Hybrid
VHB is seeking a strong Transportation/Traffic Engineer with solid design experience to join our vibrant and growing transportation consulting practice in Connecticut. There is an option for someone to work from another VHB office to support CT projects, if meeting all qualifications.
Responsibilities:
Develop, analyze and evaluate traffic improvements including traffic signals and roundabouts
Develop traffic and transportation planning, safety, and engineering solutions for multimodal transportation projects
Conduct safety engineering analysis, including design and operational focused analysis
Design traffic control devices
Design work zone traffic control
Develop roadway and intersection design
Use guidance within the MUTCD to prepare and oversee traffic signal warrant analyses
Attend and lead meetings with transportation agencies and private developers
Prepare and participate in presentations to the client team
Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports
Skills & Abilities:
A strong background in traffic engineering and task management
Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
Strong writing skills for proposals, technical reports and memoranda
The ability to balance multiple concurrent assignments
MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, Open Roads and/or Civil3D, Vissim modeling capabilities, HCS and Synchro skills a plus
Final Design Plan Development
Qualifications:
5-8 years of transportation/traffic design engineering experience required, depending on level of education
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required
Master's degree a plus (master's degree may substitute for 1 year of experience)
Professional Engineer (PE) license expected (or the ability to obtain registration within six months)
PTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification a plus
