Salary Grade / Recruitment Range: NC04 $31,200- $51,525

This is an extended posting through December 16, 2022, for Transportation Worker I positions in Division 7, Orange County. Multiple Transportation Worker I positions will be filled from each extended county posting.

Interested applicants will only have to apply one time to be considered for all our Transportation Worker I vacancies in each respective county during this time frame. However, if an applicant is interested in applying for a Transportation Worker I position in more than one county, they will need to apply to each respective county posting for which they are seeking employment. These are permanent NCDOT positions with full benefits including health insurance, retirement, vacation and sick leave, etc.

Work in this class primarily involves the operation of standard hand tools, power equipment, vehicles, and heavy equipment utilized in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of roads and roadside features for the State's highway and roadway systems. Other duties include inspecting, ensuring work zone safety, and participating in snow & ice removal. Work may include flagging and assisting with maintenance/repair project completion through the use of standard tools and equipment such as tractor with various attachments, curb machine, cutoff saw, dump truck, small wheel and sheep foot rollers, vibrator roller compactor, pulverizer mixer, and pneumatic tire roller; assisting paint crews, erecting road signs, and/or assisting Electronics Technicians withmaintenance and installation of signals; operating hand tools for sign installation and replacement as well as dump truck, broom tractor, paint line removing machine, thermoplastic machine, trencher, and edge-line paint gun operation; vegetation control, debris removal, pushing snow, tractor with various attachments and mower operation, dump and flatbed truck operation, assisting in grass and wildflower installation and maintenance.

Possession of a current Commercial Driver's License is mandatory for essential duties. CDL can be obtained through on-the-job training with a 60 day grace period to obtain a CDL Permit and 90 days to obtain a License. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

QualifiedApplicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience operating power tools such as chainsaw, weed eater, skill saw, drill, compactor, jackhammer, etc.

  • Experience performing manual labor

Additional Expectations:

Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety toe footwear is needed

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school education General Educational Development Diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Either possession of a current Commercial Driver s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.

The work involves the responsibility for providing professional social work in Child Welfare as an adoption social worker. Work involves transitioning children in Department of Social Services custody who are free for adoption, from foster care to permanent adoptive homes; recruiting, training, and providing written assessments of an individual or family's ability to serve as an adoptive parent(s); conducting monthly assessment of child's well-being needs and engaging community services in response to those needs; maintaining case records by documenting monthly contacts with the child, caregiver, and all other resources necessary to meet the child's ongoing needs; preparing and submitting adoption documents to Court for the agency, step-parent, or relative adoptions; preparing and submitting bi-annual court reports and Permanency Planning reviews; and reporting on child's progress toward permanence. An employee is responsible for responding outside normal business working hours. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Social Work Supervisor with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required. * This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required.Background Check is required. Examples of Essential Functions Examples of Essential Functions Following are examples of typical work activities and responsibilities. The incumbent may be responsible for performing other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned. Maintains children in their placements by, assessing home/school adjustment, insuring that medical and emotional needs are met, and providing appropriate service referrals while selection of adoptive parent(s) is in progress. Maintains a minimum of monthly face-to-face contacts with child and placement provider; provides support and feedback to child and family regarding other services; documents all contacts in case record. Observes and examines the families parenting capabilities, ability to attach and understand the needs for the child to determine the suitability and match for a successful adoption. Prepares reports and adoption documents to submit to Court. Participates in Court proceedings. Consults with various professionals to assure a comprehensive assessment of the child's needs occurs; creates and implements an out of home family services agreement. Performs an extensive background investigation and observation of foster and adoptive parent(s); interviews, evaluates and documents. Reviews referral forms submitted by foster care social workers to assess the needs of the child requiring placement; asks follow up questions, as needed. Conducts home visits with foster parents to provide ongoing support and guidance to the family, assess their skills in caring for foster children and assess the safety of the home environment. Participates in family Permanency Planning Reviews and other family meetings which require working alongside an interdisciplinary team. Completes timely documentation of work performed. Confers and assists co-workers, as needed. Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments. Adheres to the department's safety rules and regulations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Social Work; OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a human services field AND one (1) year of directly related experience; OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and one (1) year of directly related experience; OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a human services field AND two (2) years of directly related experience.
