Technician - General Description of Position

Responsible for keeping the District's vehicle fleet in a state of operating excellence through preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs and record keeping. This position is based on a 240 day contract, 8 hours a day with full benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be able to handle most major and minor problems related to vehicle maintenance and repair with minimal supervision or assistance.

  • Must possess knowledge and skills in vehicle maintenance, diagnostic evaluations of vehicles, operation of diagnostic equipment.

  • Must possess ability to operate computer programs relating to transportation maintenance, and record keeping.

  • Responsible for brake and tire service, maintenance, and repair.

  • Responsible for fueling and maintaining fluid levels in all vehicles.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to do clear and concise paperwork including parts and work orders.

  • Help maintain shop cleanliness.

  • Will be responsible for semi-annual inspections of fleet as well as assist state inspector in annual required state inspection.

  • Prior experience and previous on-the-job training with school buses and diesel engines is required.

  • Class B CDL with air brake, passenger and school bus endorsement.

  • Sub drive routes and short field trips when necessary.

  • Must be able to perform other duties as assigned by the district.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.

Education and Experience

High School or equivalent, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area, plus 6 to 12 months related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear; occasionally required to sit, climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
