Basic Job Concept:

Responsible for training, monitoring and evaluating driver performance. Trains and educates drivers in methods and procedures and hold them accountable for results.

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Secondary education preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • CDL A driver for six (6) months minimum.

  • Prior supervisory background preferred.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • In charge of the Transportation Department when Transportation Manager is not present.

  • Interview new hires and administer a driving road test for pre-employment purposes.

  • Introduce new employees to all warehouse managers.

  • Train drivers on the P.W.M's of FreshPoint South Florida.

  • Train new and existing drivers in proper customer service, efficient route driving, product knowledge, paperwork, and proper customer interaction.

  • Ensure cross training of drivers occurs to assure proper coverage for vacations and absences.

  • Prepare and maintain route manuals to document information on each route.

  • Prepare weekly report of driver and route evaluations.

  • Review and act upon customer issues with the Transportation Department.

  • Responsible for 10 min. safety meetings for the entire Transportation Department.

  • Motivate and assist in maintaining positive morale in the department.

  • Assist in all phases of the running of the Transportation Department, as directed by the Operations Manager.

  • Maintain, update and audit DOT hours of service on XRS system.

  • Help train drivers on using the XRS tablets.

  • Help maintains annual certifications for Smith System safety training for all drivers.

  • Conducts vehicle appearance audits.

  • Conducts driver appearance audits.

  • Completes on area observations.

  • Help completes DOT card and driver license audits.

  • Issues coach cards for unsafe behavior

  • May be required to run delivery routes.

  • Perform other duties as directed by the Manager.

  • Work with other departments to ensure customer service is provided in the most efficient method.

  • Ensure payroll is done weekly

  • Complete driver schedule weekly and vacation calendar.

  • Help coaching and discipline with DriveCam.

  • Must be able to conduct progressive discipline on drivers as needed.

  • Maintain hours of service spread sheet for drivers daily.


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.

  • Commercial Drivers' License, Class B, preferably Class A.

  • Ability to motivate, train, discipline and develop delivery drivers.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle crisis situations effectively.

  • Basic knowledge of computer programs and functions including Windows, Microsoft Office and AS400 applications.

  • Stand for extended periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, squat, turn body, and walk.

  • Lift and move cases (selecting product and placing on a pallet) ranging in weight up to 75 lbs continuously to and from heights ranging from floor to knee, waist, shoulder, and overhead.

  • Handle and feel objects and/or equipment controls; reach with hands and arms.

  • Must have the ability to talk and hear; hear warning horns on moving machinery and equipment.

  • Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include close and distance vision, depth perception, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Must exhibit a high level of endurance, energy, and strength to successfully perform position.

  • Must be able to climb on and off the box of the truck.

  • Able to drive Class B straight truck (including 5 and 6 speeds).

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly during a work shift and up to 80 lbs. occasionally.

  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment: computer, printer, copier and fax.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, an associate regularly works near moving mechanical apparatus and is regularly exposed to vibration and moderate to high noise levels. The work environment includes congested and high traffic areas, slippery floors, working alongside forklifts, single pallet jacks, electric walk behind jacks and hand carts. Walking and working is done on concrete flooring. Some duties are performed in the warehouse and will require work to be done in varying climates. Temperatures range from zero in the coolers to 95 degrees Fahrenheit or above outdoors. The shift end-time fluctuates with the employer's daily needs. The associate occasionally works in high and precarious places.

Supervisor will be responsible for management of the team members under his/her supervision. Role is responsible for ensuring prompt, efficient and accurate handling of merchandise and development and implementation of team goals. Role is responsible for hiring, evaluation, development, discipline, and termination of hourly associates. Supervisor has management responsibility for 20 top to 30 hourly associates. MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES * 45% Managing Process: Executes transportation functions of the facility in according to budgetary cost goals, operating standards, and performance metrics. Manages dedicated fleet and one-way carrier execution. Plans, executes store delivery routes. Partners with outbound operations to ensure load schedule is met. Responsible for yard management, customer service performance, including communication with stores. Analyzes service to store results, Voice of Customer results, and creates action plans to improve performance. Evaluates, analyzes current work methods to identify opportunities for efficiencies; partners with Operations Manager or AGM to drive solutions. * 25% Coaching /Developing Associates: Guides associates in daily operations, and monitors to ensure productivity, safety, service and quality. Trains and provides feedback of hourly associates; performs regular evaluations of associates regarding job performance, and methods of performing job tasks. Resolves associate relations issues in assigned functional area. Responsible for hiring, compensation, discipline and termination of hourly associates in assigned department. Investigates operational errors to determine the cause and recommends corrective action where needed. * 15% Drive Results: Manage execution of on time service to stores, trailer cube utilization and financial goals. Review daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly metric reporting, including financial analysis, to identify actions needs on negative trends; works to improve positive trends. Ensure transportation projects and pilots are on track with project timelines and results. * 15% Business Planning: Coordinates and monitors transportation plan to ensure key performance metrics are consistent with business plan, including budget and on time delivery.
