Transportation Specialist

Job Summary

The main purpose of this position is a supporting role to the Transportation Manager which also involves coaching and feedback for drivers on various metrics and expectations within their role. This role offers supplementary guidance and training to professional drivers, above and beyond that within the role of the Transportation Manager.

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions listed below represent the duties and responsibilities of the Transportation Specialist position.

• Review and understand various reports on professional driver KPIs through the Tableau system on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis (as assigned)

• Manage specific tasks such as specific professional driver conversations, completion of safety needs, maintenance needs, pending pay, etc

• Based on assigned reports, complete effective coaching conversations with professional drivers on their personal KPIs and ensure they have the knowledge and tools to improve their performance

• Consistent, clear, and concise documentation of conversations for handoff to the appropriate Transportation Manager

• Ensure proper follow-up measures are taken with the Transportation Manager for drivers needing additional training and/or disciplinary documentation

• Professional verbal and written communication with drivers and all supporting Werner staff utilizing various technologies

• Prompt attendance for all scheduled shifts

• Confidentiality is an expectation of this position based on potential information shared in coaching sessions

• Knowledge of transportation industry and terminology usually gained through practical experience and on-the-job training

• Knowledge of North American geography

• Proficient in Windows operating systems

• Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner

Education and experience

• Prefer a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably within Supply Chain, Business Administration, or equivalent experience

• Previous transportation or management experience preferred
