Transportation Specialist

The Transportation Specialist provides all levels of support to internal/external customers by troubleshooting any order and/or delivery issues. The Specialist coordinates closely with the Orders, Planning, OTM/EDI and Sales teams

Detailed Description


  • Ensure order entry of purchase orders are entered and scheduled in a complete and timely manner.

  • Oversee order modification requests (date/quantity/cancellations) and ensure they are completed in a timely manner and communicated to the buyer.

  • Process new orders based on agreement with Orders team.

  • Communicate proactively to the buyer and keep him/her updated regarding rush, late and missed orders.

  • Communicate all exceptions (including fluctuations in daily demand and rush orders) to Sales Manage, Carrier Relations, Strategic Planning and Order Management.

  • Ensure production output and carrier capacity sufficiently meets customer demand.

  • Work with Planning on any large changes (additions or deletions) to ensure product is allocated properly.

  • Work with Carrier Relations to ensure we have the right quantity of trucks at the best price to meet the customer needs.

  • Respond to all customer requests, inquiries, and complaints in a timely manner.

  • Including emails and calls from the buyer and corporate offices.

  • Tactically problem solve issues and get results to resolve customer concerns.

  • Manage orders through supply plan - includes proactively identifying potential needs for rush orders to improve in-stocks as well as collaborating with Strategic Planning in allocating production when supply constrained (such as DTS before DC or product sharing arrangements).

  • Run and analyze daily, weekly and monthly service level reporting and initiate service improvement programs when necessary.

  • Distribute weekly and monthly service level reports to buyer and internal key parties of interest.

  • Represent the company in face to face customer meetings as needed.

  • Track all outbound shipments.

  • Ensure carriers are tracking for on-time pickup.

  • Identify recovery opportunities early based on carrier feedback.

  • Track shipped loads through delivery confirmation.

  • Collaborate with DTS management and Carrier Relations on OT performance metrics to improve service to customer.

  • Collaborate with Sales Manager/Carrier Relations/Strategic Planning and Customer Solutions/Order Management for promotional planning and execution.

  • Maintain exception reports and submit to customer at the end of each month for processing.

  • Maintain open orders report and keep numbers to a minimum.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and service level improvement.

  • 2+ years Years of Experience in Customer Service/Transportation or other related field

  • Intermediate to advance with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Minimum Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience

  • Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
