1st shift

  • Sunday through Thursday 9am to 5pm
    2nd shift

  • Sunday through Thursday 2pm to 10pm

Manage transportation service providers to support supply chain objectives within operating budget. Specifically, provide daily Transportation operations direction and support to all types of transportation carriers, distribution center/cross dock facilities, corporate planning, merchants, vendors, IT, and Transportation Specialists. Establish, and enhance third party delivery network to support forecasted growth volumes to ensure that the customer's expectations are met or exceeded. Establish qualitative and quantitative performance criteria to monitor and evaluate merchandise delivery performance.


  • Monitor and evaluate logistics service providers and vendors' performance. Use root cause analyses to identify and correct sub- standard performance.

  • Manage daily transportation procedures, operations, and execution. Provide leadership to transportation specialists. Support transportation operation by maintaining 7da X 24hr coverage. Assist specialists with vendor ready to ship calls and service exceptions on 800 lines as needed.

  • Maintain and manage accurate and timely store to DC/CD to pool distributor mapping assignments. Participate in development of DC/CD to pooler mappings.

  • Prioritize and direct logistics activities for new logistics service providers and new or realigned DC/CD and start-ups.

  • Support corporate/field distribution initiatives through project management.

  • Manage and coordinate daily, monthly and yearly operational excellence opportunities.

  • Coordinate and support Loss Prevention requirements to ensure third party carrier compliance.

  • Assist in the development of innovative solutions and continuous improvement opportunities in transportation/distribution network. Establish and update third party service provider evaluation criteria through profiling, benchmarking and key performance indicators.

  • Partner with Transportation Administration to maintain current and future potential service provider database. Initiate value added transportation /logistics services that support supply chain and customer network. Participate in development and use of R.F.I. and R.F.Q. process. Assist in the carrier negotiations.

  • Build and develop relationships in operations, sales and support with service providers and vendors. Provide daily direction to network to meet established delivery, reporting, and exception management requirements. Prioritize equipment and driver utilization.

  • Use Transportation software system to optimize freight movements. Back up planning specialist as required. Provide, update and maintain accurate operational data in Transportation software system to insure best-cost solutions are achieved. Use Transportation software system data to create operational reports and improvements to overall transportation operation.

  • Insure monthly reports are accurate and timely.

  • Conduct transportation cost analyses. Manage exception charges.

  • Maintain open, consistent and clear communication with Corporate Merchants, Planners, and Brand Managers to insure freight movements and information from vendors/consolidators to DCs/CDs and then to stores meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Provide operational information to all appropriate Transportation department members, all shipping and receiving facilities. Coordinate and lead effective communications. Represent transportation on various cross-functional team assignments.

  • Actively participate in recruiting and training of department specialists. Provide day to day operational leadership through planning, executing and evaluating performance. Contribute to a learning organization.

  • Assist transportation managers, directors on issues and projects as required.


Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Ability to carry out responsibilities in stressful work environment punctuated by heavy shipping volume. Sense of urgency. Ability to prioritize, get results, and manage details.

  • Ability to work non-traditional and flexible hours.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical ability.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated team leadership.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Strong conflict management experience.

  • Computer experience including Microsoft Word/Excel/Access/Powerpoint.

  • Knowledge of Manugistics MTM or other freight optimizing software.

  • Knowledge of GAP systems, TIMS, SCAN, shipment tracking.

  • Must be able to read and write English

Minimum educational level:

  • BA/BS degree or/equivalent five years logistic/transportation/distribution experience required.

Experience required:

  • Previous carrier operations experience or logistics/distribution/shipping environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Travel required to various shipping and receiving locations, service providers, and training.

  • Provide off hours coverage as needed via cellular or systems hook ups.
