PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Supervise the maintenance and repair of a ?eet of school buses. Supervise mechanics and ensure they are trained on current operating procedures, and that they are properly equipped and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-e?ective manner.

Ensure a safe environment exists and all maintenance activities are in compliance with State, Federal, and District requirements. Oversee the purchase, stock, and inventory of parts for repairing vehicles. Investigate all vehicle accidents involving transportation department vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certi?cation:High School Diploma/GED and technical school degree/certi?cation preferred
A valid Texas Commercial Driver's Class B license with P and S endorsements must obtain within 90 of employment
Acceptable driving record according to state policy
Formal training in Auto and/or Heavy-Duty repair, or 3 years of veri?able experience in school bus repair required
ASE Master Certi?cation and TASBT Master School Bus Technician Certi?cation preferred
ASE or MACS A/C recovery and or recycling certi?cation preferred or obtained within the ?rst year of
TXDPS State Certi?ed Vehicle Safety Inspector or must obtain within 90 of employment
Must obtain TCEQ Class A and B UST Facility Operator Certi?cate within 90 days of employment
Special Knowledge/Skills:Working knowledge of automotive mechanics and maintenance
Ability to direct and supervise personnel and coordinate shop operations
Ability to pass drug and alcohol tests
Ability to pass a medical exam and obtain a 20-hour certi?cation card
Knowledge of maintenance & repair of a wide variety of vehicles
Ability to diagnose common defects of vehicles
Ability to read and understand technical & professional manuals
Knowledge of auto parts and terminology
Knowledge of purchasing procedures
Ability to use personal computer and inventory tracking software
Ability to investigate vehicle accidents and ?le insurance documents
Working knowledge of environmental laws and ?lings
Ability to complete SHARS, and BARS reports
Working knowledge and ability to navigate the Google Drive
Ability to perform minor welding to bodywork to keep vehicles

Experience:
Minimum of 3 years ?eet supervisory experience in a Diesel shop of Heavy/Med duty ?eets.
Minimum of 3 years of Auto and or Heavy-Duty ?eet Diagnoses and repair experience
Experience in both gasoline and diesel engines and components
Background in planning and scheduling maintenance repairs (daily, weekly, monthly)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Supervise the diagnosing, assigning, and repairing of district automotive
Establish an e?ective system of routine automotive maintenance & preventative care
Oversee (and participate in when appropriate) the work needed to implement preventive maintenance for the vehicles being serviced.
Oversee (and participate in when appropriate) the work needed to complete "unscheduled repairs" to the vehicle services by the department.
Oversee the parts inventory maintained and used in this maintenance facility
Oversee the tracking of inventory and work orders through the software
Maintain records on all accidents involving transportation department
As a member of the accident review committee, you will Investigate all accidents involving transportation department vehicles and determine possible causes of accidents.
Develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and
Respond to and or dispatch shop personnel to road
Assign priority to vehicle repair work orders and
Assign all vehicle repairs to personnel and oversee completion on a daily
Arrange contract repairs when work cannot be performed in the
Inspect work performed by mechanics in the overhaul and repair of district
Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor
Review and approve completed work
Compile, maintain, and ?le all physical and computer records
Maintain accurate records of all fuel and lubricants
Maintain records on parts used, time spent on labor, and cost of each repair
Detects and resolves problems with incorrect orders, invoices, and
Ensure all equipment, and tools are in a safe operating
Conduct annual inventory of equipment and Recommend replacement of existing equipment.
Oversee cleaning of buses by washing
Oversee the upkeep, appearance, and safe working condition of shop and parking lot
Retrieve footage from the video monitoring
Coordinate emergency evacuations and hurricane procedures with leadership
Monitor quality control and maintenance procedures
Understand and comply with laws and regulations on transportation and
Transport students to and from school as departmental needs dictate
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing,
Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety
Maintain a positive and professional tone in a communication
Recommend employment decisions and handle employee relations issues of
Maintain accurate information for payroll
Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as
Perform other duties as assigned by

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of mechanics, utility workers, shop personnel, and bus maintenance workers.

Small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, torch, jacks, safety equipment, video monitoring
equipment, personal computers, printer, diagnostic computer, calculators, copiers, forklifts, school buses, and district vehicles.

The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first-time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
