POSITION: Transportation Technology Specialist

PAY GRADE: 70

LOCATION: Transportation

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months

Reports To: Executive Director of Transportation

KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides technical support for Communications International, Angel Trax/Provision (Bus Cameras), Synovia/Samsara (Bus GPS), Kajeet (Bus WiFi) Web School Assistant (Edulog) and all other pertinent Transportation related software.

  • Facilitate "Edulog Parent Portal" maintenance.

  • Provide technical support and training for GPS and bus wifi software and equipment.

  • Maintain all inventory and repairs for GPS, bus wifi devices, cameras, radios, cell phones and other Transportation technologies.

  • Provide support as needed for bus camera equipment.

  • Install and maintain the operational working status of all technologies including the bus fleet radios, cameras, and GPS software.

  • Provide Web School Assistant, AngelTrax/Provision, bus wifi and GPS training opportunities to transportation staff and appropriate school personnel.

  • Perform technology inventory and accountability for transportation equipment including computers, radios, cell phones, bus wifi devices and other technology devices.

  • Onsite technical support and contact person between Transportation and Technology.

  • Onsite technical support and contact person between Transportation and Payroll concerning TAA.

  • Onsite technical support and contact person for all other Transportation technologies.

  • Submit work order requests to the Technology Department help desk to assist with implementation of software and access on the JCPS network and request appropriate equipment for staff.

  • coordinates and performs special assignments involving technology and equipment installations, removal/replacements, relocations, problem resolutions and troubleshooting.

  • Tracks and log related service requests, work orders, reports of system and/or equipment failures including dates, categories, descriptions, resolutions, actions, results and follow ups.

  • Performs testing of school bus camera systems to ensure proper function.

  • Attends appropriate and necessary training opportunities and internet based instructional courses to obtain an expert level of knowledge of all applicable technology hardware and software systems related to fuel systems, bus camera systems, global positioning systems and applications, time capture systems, field trip systems, vehicle radio systems, and other associated school bus transportation software and hardware.

  • Assists transportation staff with the development and implementation of an applicable technology-based budget, to include new and replacement equipment.

  • Responsible for assisting with developing written RFPs/RFQs for equipment upgrades and new technology-based equipment as it pertains to transportation.

  • Participates in staff meetings to plan, coordinate and update the technology related work of the department.

  • Performs setups and maintenance for user login access to systems using appropriate procedures and protocol to maintain hierarchy for security and system safety

  • Other duties as assigned by Auxiliary Services and Safety Officer and Executive Director of Transportation.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates Degree, high school graduate and experience related to transportation in lieu of degree will be considered.

  • Must have working knowledge and be considered competent with technology related platforms such as Microsoft Office, Windows, Google, Excel and TIMS.

  • Possess good public relation skills as well as excellent communication skills.

  • Experience with installation and troubleshooting of transportation technology including camera hardware and software, radio hardware, bus wifi software and GPS hardware.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions needed to fulfill required job duties.

  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with employees, Transportation Services staff, Central Services staff, and customers.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Required to work a staggered work schedule as needed.
