Transportation Route Coordinator/Manager

TITLE: ROUTE COORDINATOR / MANAGER

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Three years experience as a school bus driver.

2.Working knowledge of the area assigned.

3.Working knowledge of routes and procedures.

4.Valid school bus driver's license.

5.Demonstrates aptitude for successful supervision of personnel.

6.Demonstrates skills necessary for record keeping and data collection.

7.Demonstrates proficiency in English communication skills, verbal as well as written.

8.Department of Education certification as school bus driver trainer.

9.Such other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations & Facilities

SUPERVISES: School Bus Drivers and School Bus Aides

JOB GOAL: To contribute to the safe, efficient operation of the Transportation Department by effectively training school bus driver personnel, and working with the Director of Operations & Facilities to ensure that bus stops are located in accordance with state and local regulations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Works with the Director of Operations & Facilities to effectively set routes, hire bus driver personnel, and make recommendations regarding the Transportation Department.

2.Works with school administrators and parents, when directed, to resolve transportation problems.

3.Supervise bus driver personnel to effectively carry out the goals of school transportation.

4.Assists in the coordination of the sections of the transportation department to accomplish the primary objective of providing smooth, safe, and efficient operations for the Transportation Department.

5.Uses a thorough knowledge of all school bus routes with the ability to recognize and recommend needed changes for improving routes, loading areas, supervision and discipline problems and initiates such practices when authorized to do so by the Director of Operations & Facilities.

6.Maintains knowledge of current state and local laws, School Board policies, and Transportation Department directives, and incorporates these into the established training program.

7.Recognizes and recommends needed changes for improving the safety of school bus routes, school bus stops, loading areas and facilities.

8.Reports, verbally or in writing, to the immediate supervisor, observation of violations of published rules, laws, policies, and directives.

9.To coordinate on-site activities of Transportation's service records system as related to driving, routing, scheduling, and driver personnel.

10. Certifies each driver trainee when he/she feels that the trainee has completed all requirements per state laws, Transportation Department directives, and School Board policies and procedures.

11. Maintains close supervision of all drivers and aides while they are traveling routes, ensuring that they comply with all state and local laws, School Board policies, and Transportation Department directives.

12. Receives and checks all reports and records required to be maintained by the driver.

13. Performs other related duties as required. NOTE: The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium Work:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects. In an emergency, workers may be required to restrain a physically active individual as a temporary safety precaution.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months. Salary to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor.
