Transportation Planning Intern - Fall 2024

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Transportation Planning Academic Year Part-Time Intern (AYPTI) for the Transportation-Infrastructure Business Unit.

The Transportation Planning Intern will be mentored by and support mid-level and senior planning staff. This individual will assist in projects to identify future multimodal transportation needs and support development of studies for clients. This is an amazing opportunity to gain hands on experience and a better understanding of the Transportation Planning Industry.

Responsibilities:

• Provide support for Travel Demand Modeling, Transportation System/Network Planning and Operations, Transit Planning, Freight Planning, Transportation Master Plans, Complete Streets, Pedestrian/Bicycle Facilities Planning, Land Use Planning and Environmental Planning

• Conduct research, data collection and analysis

• GIS, Mapping and development of representative figures

• Assist in report development and meeting preparation / support

• Perform basic calculations

Qualifications:

• Actively pursuing a Master's degree from an accredited institution in Urban and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, or associated field with an emphasis on Transportation Planning

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Power Point)

• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong work ethic aligning with the company's mission and core values

• Must reside and/or attend an institution (physical or online) near Miami, FL

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2.5 GPA or higher

• GIS experience (ArcGIS Pro and/Arc Map, a plus)

• Experience or exposure to transportation planning in Florida

• Specific interest in Transportation Planning

What is an Academic Year Part-Time Intern?

Historically, RS&H has a phenomenal track record of converting interns to entry-level associates. The Academic Year Part-Time Internship (AYPTI) provides soon-to-be graduates pursuing a career in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry with an opportunity to sharpen their skills and gain hands-on experience during their final year(s) of study.

Who is Eligible to apply?

Rising graduating seniors and 2nd-year graduate students.

Is this internship position remote?

While some tasks may be performed in a remote setting, the expectation is that the student will work on-site for up to 29 hours per week. Most AYPTI will average 15-20 hours per week.

Is this internship opportunity paid?

This is a paid internship. AYPTIs will be paid a fair and competitive wage in comparison to market standards.

When during the year does the Academic Year Part-Time Internship occur?

We have some flexibility on specific start dates, but will be looking to bring someone onboard near the start of the Fall 2024 semester. Internship extensions may be granted based on performance and determined near the end of each semester. Graduating interns may be offered an entry-level position during or near the conclusion of their term.
