The Position

Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This recruitment is for Psychiatric Nurse II to actively participate on a multidisciplinary team providing nursing care for children at DESERT WILLOW TREATMENT CENTER (DWTC) located in Las Vegas, NV. DWTC is a 20 bed psychiatric hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that provides mental health treatment for children age 12 to 17.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. Work responsibilities include: Providing professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals; Planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care delivered to adolescent clients; Identifying patient physical and mental health care needs and make comprehensive clinical evaluations; Providing input and recommendations regarding nursing care and services; Initiate and carry out therapeutic, educational, social, and physical care activities; Administer medications as prescribed by physicians and monitor patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reactions; Monitoring patients for safety; Document client observations and the effectiveness of planned program activities. Will ensure DWTC maintains a safe, healthy and therapeutic environment for our patients, and nursing care objectives are met in accordance with the nursing association professional standards of practice and consistent with DWTC policy.

To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.

Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. This recruitment is for several clinicians in the Child and Adolescent Mobile Crisis Response Team in Las Vegas. The Mobile Crisis Response Team triages calls from community, responds in teams to children and adolescents in acute psychiatric and behavioral crisis in the community. Responses can take place in emergency departments, schools, home and other community settings. Teams can remain in place for up to 30 days to provide intensive clinical and case management services to these youth and families. This position will be the clinical lead on the response and stabilization team. The mobile crisis team will provide services during daytime, evening and weekend hours across a variety of shifts. This recruitment is for all of the shifts that the Mobile Crisis Response Team covers. Applicants must be licensed, or in/eligible for an internship for licensure with the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers, Nevada Board of Examiners for Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Professional Counselors or the Nevada Board of Examiners for Psychologists.
