The Position

Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This recruitment is for Psychiatric Nurse II to actively participate on a multidisciplinary team providing nursing care for children at DESERT WILLOW TREATMENT CENTER (DWTC) located in Las Vegas, NV. DWTC is a 20 bed psychiatric hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that provides mental health treatment for children age 12 to 17.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. Work responsibilities include: Providing professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals; Planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care delivered to adolescent clients; Identifying patient physical and mental health care needs and make comprehensive clinical evaluations; Providing input and recommendations regarding nursing care and services; Initiate and carry out therapeutic, educational, social, and physical care activities; Administer medications as prescribed by physicians and monitor patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reactions; Monitoring patients for safety; Document client observations and the effectiveness of planned program activities. Will ensure DWTC maintains a safe, healthy and therapeutic environment for our patients, and nursing care objectives are met in accordance with the nursing association professional standards of practice and consistent with DWTC policy.

To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.

Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

Typical duties involve the maintenance of wildlife habitat by operatinglight and heavy equipment, controlling water levels in wetland areas, managing vegetation and related activities intended to develop and enhance an environment which will support the State's wildlife species. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. This position will serve as the junior member of a two-person Wildlife Water Development crew that performs a wide range of necessary water development (guzzler) related inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction duties. The position assists in operating and maintaining vehicles and equipment used on projects in a safe a reasonable manner and in accordance with appropriate operating manuals and participates in other programs as needed to achieve assigned habitat program objectives. The position works for extended periods in locations that are a significant distance from the home base, inclusive of camping out in remote areas for up to eight days at a time. This position interacts with NDOW and non-NDOW people including the many volunteers assisting the crew on guzzler construction and major rebuild projects.This position is being recruited at both the Wildlife Area Technician 1 and 2 level.
