Job Description:

The Transportation Manager is responsible for day to day transportation operations. This includes driver management, load planning, and customer service functions needed to ensure customer satisfaction. The operational functions include revenue generation, safety, recruiting, equipment maintenance monitoring, and driver payroll. This must be accomplished in conjunction with meeting the key performance indicators established by the Dedicated Logistics Manager, Operations Manager and our customer.


  • Build and maintain driver relationships through understanding and meeting driver needs. These needs include, but are not limited to home time, payroll, utility, equipment breakdowns, logging violations, safety and equipment issues, etc.

  • Assigning drivers to loads by optimizing load information such as origination, destination, type of freight, number of miles, stops, directions, etc. with driver needs and availability.

  • This is done using the AS400 computer system, Qualcomm satellite, face-to-face communication, and phone.

  • Understand and adhere to our customer's dynamics, service expectations, goals, and initiatives as they relate to improving value for the Customer and Werner.

  • Interface with various departments such as billing, vans, customer service, risk, safety, payroll, fuel, maintenance and external vendors.

  • Work closely with Dedicated Manager and/or Operations Manager to fill and maintain a full board of drivers.

  • Bachelor's degree (Business Administration, Marketing or Transportation/Logistics) and/or two to three years of fleet management or transportation experience in the truckload industry preferred.

  • Six months to one year of supervisory experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills and management ability.

  • Skill in operating a computer terminal and satellite communications system required.

Yes Job Summary/Basic Function Job Summary- Provide customer service support by answering and responding to phone inquiries, information customers about program options and registration procedures and processing registrations and transportation reservations for all programs. This position serves all Concordia Language Villages clients, the Program and Administrative Leadership group, deans, program leaders and other staff as they engage in programs. This position requires strong customer service skills, the need to maintain confidentiality, a significant focus on data entry, attention to detail, ability to track multiple activities at once and timely, clear, succinct and focused communications with all stakeholders with which this position interfaces. Essential Functions- Support the mission and vision of Concordia College and perform the core competencies as defined for this position and outlined below. 1.Village Weekends co-coordinator – main teacher contact for specific language groups, register villagers, information collection and reporting to support programs 2.Summer Transportation logistics specialist – coordinate with team members to manage and execute the summer transportation charter plans for villagers and staff 3.Empower customers and promote self service 4.Serve customers in person, on the telephone, and via e-mail. 5.Provide site tours for the public. 6.Transportation of villagers and staff for programs. 7.May direct the work of on-call and summer staff 8.Support peer team members in their work and workload balancing efforts 9.Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience Two-year post-secondary degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience in a fast-paced customer service role Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in customer service and a commitment to offering the highest levels of such service to customers. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and public relations. General knowledge of computer systems and software, particularly Microsoft Office products. Comfortable working in Excel. High attention to detail. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Comfortable working with diverse cultures. Current Driver's license and insurable driving record. Proven ability to accomplish defined goals and objectives. Familiarity with general accounting practices Preferred Qualifications Direct experience working with the Concordia Language Village programs as an attendee or staff member. Proficiency in at least one additional language other than English.
