Job Description Summary:

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of entry level to semi-skilled maintenance tasks in the areas of maintenance, landscaping, construction and equipment operation for City of Boulder transportation corridors and medians, and performs related duties as required. Position is seasonal and for the duration of the summer.

Seasonal Transportation Maintenance Technician Medians and Bikeways

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Turf maintenance.

• Hardscape cleaning and maintenance.

• Waste and litter removal.

• Operates a wide variety of equipment and hand tools including mowers, string trimmers, blowers, shovels, rakes, etc.

• Repairs and maintains related equipment.

• Performs general median and path maintenance duties such as turf and native area mowing, horticulture, trash removal, and other duties as assigned.

• Exhibits excellent customer service skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Possess a valid driver license.

• Basic written and spoken communication skills.

• Ability to learn riding mower, trailer, and other landscape equipment operation.

• Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.

• Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment under a variety of weather conditions.

• Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned area and make judgments related to safety.

• Ability to safely work in and around traffic.

• Ability to provide excellent customer service.

• Effective interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills.

• Ability to keep accurate records, organize information, supplies and equipment, and follow established procedures.

• Have and maintain acceptable background and motor vehicle information, including criminal conviction and driving history.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Physical and Mental Effort: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to operate equipment, and review evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions and in confined spaces and to operate equipment while working in and around moving traffic. Upper body strength to lift and carry equipment and supplies as needed. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.

Work Environment: Works outdoors in a variety of weather conditions in and around moving traffic. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.

Machines and equipment used include but are not limited to the following : Hand and power tools, long-handled tools, jackhammer, riding mower, chainsaw, tamper, grinder, compressor, safety devices, utility truck, standard office equipment including personal computers, telephone, calculators, and copy/fax machines.
