General Summary

The Transportation Lab Assistant will be responsible for the flow and management of parts inventory for the parts room. Process parts orders for the Automotive, Auto Body and Diesel Technology students and faculty and will maintain inventory records.

Workflow documentation and invoicing for vehicles repaired as part of the automotive programs and will kept and processed. Individual will be responsible for the pick-up and delivery of parts from local vendors as well as the ordering of parts from vendors at a distance. Maintain inventory and service records for student accounts and department budgets.

Maintains records and support the NATEF/NC3/I-Car or other Certification programs held by the various Transportation programs. Help with recruiting, proctoring tests, overseeing classrooms/labs and a strong support for the five Transportation programs. Be organized and have knowledge of inventory tracking software.

Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential. Building partnerships with business and industries, colleges, high schools, and state agencies is a critical component of the program. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Responsible for purchasing, inventorying, and stocking parts for the parts department for use in the Automotive Technology, Auto Body Technology, Diesel Technology, and Heavy Equipment programs as well as supporting other program areas as needed.

Provides some parts department support for the Automotive Technology program at Hastings High School. This includes picking up and dropping off parts and completing some parts ordering on a limited basis.

Maintain inventory and tracking systems as needed to support the parts department. Utilizes software as needed for inventory and supply management as well as invoicing and record keeping needs for support of the part department and other program areas.

Utilizes the college purchasing p-card process to purchase supplies and materials as needed for program, instructor, and student needs. Reconcile and maintain the p-card records for the parts department.

Performs tool and lab inspections in accordance with the Central Community College Environmental Safety and Health Department and OSHA standards. Maintains records of inspections and keep detailed files for analysis and review.

Updates and maintains chemical inventory documentation for the Automotive Technology, Auto Body, Diesel Technology and Heavy Equipment programs. Reports back to the Environmental Health and Safety Department for Central Community College.

Maintains the documentation requirements for the transportation programs to support nationally recognized credentials in areas including but not limited to the following: ASE, NC3 and NATEF for the Automotive Technology and Diesel Technology programs and I-CAR for the Auto Body Technology program.

Monitors and updates databases and spreadsheets which will be utilized to track each activity, supply levels for the Parts Department, Inventory needs, program purchases, and other purchases. Create invoices for student purchases and work with the Business office to help reconcile student accounts.

Facilitates proctoring, lab/classroom coverage, recruiting as needed, campus and building tours, in support of all five transportation programs. Organizes events and other activities to support campus and college initiatives.

Activities include but are not limited to the following: Transportation Tool Show, Central Career and Industry Exploration Day, Diesel Career Fair, and the Hastings Campus Alumni Weekend, with specific attention to the Car Show.

Provides summer support to the Truck Driving program for enrollment and scheduling, arranging drug screens, DOT, and providing phone support to the supervisor during instructional time.

Available to assist the Administrative Assistants for the STS program doing a variety of tasks that could include purchasing, budgeting, phone coverage, and other duties as assigned.
