Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) is seeking an experienced self-motivated mid-level engineer that demonstrates a passion for improving transit systems to connect and enhance communities. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success with transit planning, traffic analysis for transit projects, transit design, and project management experience. This position offers significant project management and technical responsibilities.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works on a range of projects from start to finish. Projects may include general transit planning, corridor plans, alternative analysis, preliminary engineering, final design, and project implementation. This position is intended to be heavily focused on project work, with a direct project hours utilization goal of 80%.
  • Manages a range of small to mid-sized transit projects across existing FHU geographies and in new geographies.
  • Responsible for overseeing data collection, technical analyses, and written documentation.
  • Participates in and presents project findings in writing and at client meetings, technical group gatherings, and day or evening public meetings/hearings.
  • Develops design plans and specifications for transit related infrastructure projects including signing, striping, signals, and roadway improvements. Design efforts will span from early planning to final design, with this individual needing to demonstrate a capacity for critical thinking to creatively work within constraints of a project to improve the transit network. The ability to think outside of the box is encouraged, while being able to ground truth ideas in what is achievable for construction.
  • Responsible for job specific quality system tasks as defined in the FHU quality manual.
  • Oversees and directs the analytical work of other engineers and planners.
  • Participates in the planning, estimation, and preparation of proposals as well as other competitive project pursuit elements such as client interviews.
  • Participates in business development efforts to grow the National Transit Services group across existing FHU geographies and in new geographies.
  • Assists with project-related management of staff and mentoring of staff on transit projects. This individual will need to have, or develop over the first year, detailed knowledge of the nuances of transit related design and support training other FHU staff throughout both the FHU Great Plains and FHU Mountain West Regions when additional resources are pulled into transit projects.
  • Builds and maintains client relationships. Over the course of the first year in this position, it is expected that this individual will become the go-to technical advisor for transit related design elements to FHU clients.

Desirable areas of expertise include:

  • Transit planning and engineering for bus priority projects (transit signal priority, queue jumps, bypass lanes, bus bulbs, etc.).
  • Transit planning and engineering for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation

Requirements

Education and/or experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/transportation engineering or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Five or more years of experience in transit planning and transportation engineering on transit related projects.
  • Certificates, licenses, registrations: Professional Engineer Certificate or active pursuit of Professional Engineer Certificate in Colorado.

The pay for this position has a range of $95,000 - $120,000 annually. The actual offer will carefully consider a range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience.
