The Local Agency Program (LAP) Rural Road Engineer is responsible for ensuring the review and advertisement of statewide rural (Federal and State) local agency projects for lettings. This position reviews plans, specifications and estimates, holds grade inspections with local agencies, and prepares bidding documents in conformance with federal and state requirements; using files received from the local agency to meet appropriate letting dates to ensure a timely construction completion.

  This position makes independent decisions based on sound engineering judgement and professional experience in relation to applicable design guidelines to assure project designs are in the best interest of the health, safety, welfare, and property of the public. This position has the authority to accept or deny project bidding documents. This position is also responsible to oversee and direct the process for developing projects in compliance with federal regulations, state laws, and department policies.  The functions of this position require oral and written communications with local agency officials, engineering consultants, state and federal officials, and legislative officials.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the Transportation Engineer Licensed Specialist 13 position.

Education

Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

Experience

Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including two years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11 or one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 12 or Transportation Engineer Licensed 12.

To be considered for this position you must:

  • Possess a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan.

  • Possess a valid driver's license.
