The essential duties for this job include:

Transportation Engineer III

  • Recommends practices and procedures for Critical Path Method scheduling, budgeting, resourcing and baseline management.

  • Reviews and supports Standard Operating Procedures for maintaining and archiving project schedules: managing resources: managing budgets: managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements.

  • Assists in developing and/or monitoring budgets

  • Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.

  • Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.

  • Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings.

  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Transportation Engineer IV and V:

  • Chairs or serves as a member of a contract selection team.

  • Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.

  • Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and /or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance.

  • Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.

  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

  • Negotiates fees and budgets, develops and negotiates scopes of work, negotiates contract work schedules and negotiates other contract agreements.

  • Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and/or international.

  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Addition duties for Transportation Engineer V:

  • Oversees and develops plans for complex project(s) related to their resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and/or procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives.

Education

This job requires the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related discipline

Work Experience

This job requires the following:

Transportation Engineer III

  • 5 years in Transportation engineering or related engineering experience

  • (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

  • No supervisory experience required.

  • Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Transportation Engineer IV

  • 6 years in Transportation engineering or related engineering experience

  • (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

  • No supervisory experience required.

  • Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Transportation Engineer V

  • 6 years in Transportation engineering or related engineering experience

  • (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

  • No supervisory experience required.

  • Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

The following Licenses and/or Certifications are required for this job:

  • Licensed Prof Engineer

  • Safety Impact Certificate

  • Valid Driver's License required at time of application

Safety Impact certification is not required at the time of application. The Safety Impact certification will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.

Other Conditions:

  • Professional engineers licensed in another state, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the Texas Board Of Professional Engineers within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

  • This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

Conditions of Employment

  • Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact certification will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.

Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. Safety impact employees will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.

  • Required to work weekends and holidays.

  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.

  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.

  • Driver's record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.

  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.
