Transportation Engineer

ATCS is seeking a highly motivated, multi-faceted entry-level Transportation (Roadway Design) Engineer to join our team. This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days per week required onsite in the Glen Allen, VA office and up to 2 days working remotely.

This position will be focused primarily on roadway design and perform a variety of tasks at the direction of a project manager or other senior staff related to transportation design for public agencies (VDOT, County DOTs, etc.). The diversity of responsibilities and actual tasks require a flexible mindset and cooperative team-oriented, can-do attitude to support our project teams, the design department, and ATCS.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assisting in the planning and design of transportation-related facilities

• Supporting Senior Staff in a variety of tasks in the field of transportation design

• Developing roadway geometry

• Preparing construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates

• Developing technical reports

• Developing drainage and utility designs

• Conducting field visits during design or construction

• Participating in client and public meetings

Required Skills:

• A Graduate or an upcoming graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program

• 0-2+ years experience in the field of transportation engineering (including internships)

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with others

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team and able to thrive in a busy environment with multiple assignments

• The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational skills

• Demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office and any experience with design software such as MicroStation and OpenRoads is a plus

• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred
