Job Description

Join our CDM Smith team in either Orlando or Tampa, FL! We have a long-standing presence in Florida providing roadway and drainage design services. We are growing the team and this is an excellent opportunity to participate in client-focused activities and take on leadership and client-oriented tasks.

As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by;

• Providing technical services for the design of transportation projects including urban and rural highways and roads.

• As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by helping to grow the department by participating in marketing demonstrations and project pursuits.

• Will work under the direction of a Project Manager leading task teams designing roadway drainage elements of roadway design projects.

• Acting independently on technical matters.

• Acting as a mentor for junior-level employees.

• Directing the work of engineers and technicians.

• Working in a multi-disciplinary environment, closely coordinating with team members.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 10 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills and Abilities :

Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations. Basic knowledge of design standards (AASHTO, NACTO, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with FDOT.

• Experience with roadway drainage design, including ditches, small pipe culverts, storm sewer systems, outfall analysis, and drainage investigations.

• Experience with bridge and/or culvert design over streams using the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) design guidelines, such as Hydraulic Design Series 5, 7, etc.

• Experience with the design and permitting of stormwater systems for roadways including rural, urban, and limited access systems.

• Experience with drainage design using the FDOT best management practices.

• Experience using Microstation CADD and Geopak Drainage Software, HY8, HECRAS, HEC1 or HECHMS, ARCGIS.

• Experience using OpenRoads Designer.
