The Opportunity:

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has a great opportunity for a motivated Engineer who has strong leadership skills and an exceptional aptitude for managing projects.

The Project Engineering Office located in Bellingham, WA is looking for a Team Leader who will be responsible for leading staff in the design, construction and administration of multiple projects to improve State Highways. We are looking for a well-rounded engineer who enjoys learning and is excited about taking on new challenges. This position will initially be filling the Design Team Leader role within the Bellingham Project Office, but will be asked to lead construction and/or administration teams in the future.

The Team Lead will perform supervisory level civil engineering tasks and will:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians.

  • Ensure successful delivery of assigned projects and that they meet current standards and guidelines.

  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned projects.

  • Identify, communicate, and track project risks.

  • Review and recommend engineering solutions.

  • Review and/or produce technical documents (reports, design documentation, plans, specification, and estimates).

  • Provide technical guidance and direction regarding WSDOT standards and procedures to staff.

  • Oversee contract administration and compliance requirements.

  • Prepare and review change orders and supporting documentation.

  • Provide training, coaching, and performance evaluations for staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Three years of Construction Administration or Civil Engineering experience; or 1 year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 2 or equivalent.

  • Knowledgeable in interpreting contract documents, manuals, and specifications.

  • Knowledge of project management and reporting practices.

  • Experience with construction budget tracking systems and scheduling

  • Experience leading and managing teams.

  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.

  • Proven ability to review engineering plans and specifications for compliance with established standards.

  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including evening, night, weekends, and overtime as needed.

  • Ability to mentor, coach and supervise staff and effectively implement development strategies.

  • A valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field of study strongly preferred.

  • Professional Engineering license or EIT desired.

Some of what you'll do as a Social Service Specialist: * Meet all casework management directives required by law, policy, and other mandates. * Adhere to Solution-Based Casework (SBC) model. * Perform advanced level work in the investigation of child abuse and neglect allegations and specialized case management. * Investigate allegations, assess complex family situations, and develop plans to protect children either in their own homes or out of home care through the intervention of the court system. * Make findings of abuse or neglect based on the results of the investigation. * Focus on understanding and respecting the strengths of families including their heritage, cultural beliefs and values, communication and learning styles. * Work independently in devising your own work methods to provide an advanced level of specialized, culturally competent, and solution focused case management. * Utilize the Child Health and Education Tracking (CHET) Screens. * Provide accurate and timely entries into FamLink. The goal class for this position is a Social Service Specialist 3. We are willing to consider candidates at the Social Service Specialist 2 level, with a training plan to advance to a Social Service Specialist 3. Experience is the only difference between qualifications for both levels, and will be evaluated by the hiring manager.
