BOBs is seeking a transportation engineer licensed specialist 3 (request for action structural specialist) who can embrace the challenges of meeting our goals and exceeding the standards!

As the next BOBs transportation engineer licensed specialist 3 (request for action structural specialist), you'll provide impactful leadership and oversight for a variety of maintenance, renovation and construction projects for MDOT's infrastructure. Your expertise in project management, coordination and attention to detail will directly contribute to enhancing Michigan's transportation system operations and the team's success.

As the next transportation engineer licensed specialist 3, you would be responsible for:

  • Managing, coordinating, designing, and prioritizing Tier 2 and 3 requests for action (RFAs) submitted by others (e.g., bridge inspectors throughout the state, region bridge engineers and consultants).

  • Participating in RFA committee meetings by providing technical assistance and expertise on new RFAs, following up on current Tier 2 and Tier 3 RFAs, and sharing best practices and lessons learned relative to the RFA program.

  • Helping with the RFA and Bridge Priority Preservation Call for Projects by reviewing submittals for work addressing Tier 2 and 3 RFAs and offering recommendations on prioritization based on available funding and validating proposed scope of work.

  • Coordinating with the Statewide Structural Repair Crew supervisors and assign, approve and review work as necessary.

  • Serving as the backup resource when the emergency structural response specialist is not available, providing support to MDOT region offices and Transportation Service Centers (TSCs) following high-load hits and other structural damage due to vehicular/load impact.

Education

Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

Experience

Five years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including three years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11, two years equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 12 or Transportation Engineer Licensed 12, or one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineering Licensed Specialist 13 or Transportation Engineering Specialist 13.

Possession of a registered professional engineering license as required by the State of Michigan.

Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
