Job Description

DLZ Corporation has an exciting opportunity in our Transportation Department for a Division Manager in our Lansing, Michigan office. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize the efforts of the project managers and staff reporting to the Transportation Division of DLZ's Michigan Operation.

  • Recommend facilities, personnel and funds required to carry out the programs directly related toward fulfillment of MI Transportation division objectives.

  • Prepare and monitor MI Transportation division's operating budget, maintaining budgetary guidelines and profitability.

  • Provide for growth of the division by generating new prospects, developing client relationships and assisting in business development efforts.

  • Work with the President and senior leadership in developing long and short-range plans for the advancement and growth of the division.

  • Review, develop and mentor staff; advise on professional development and recommend paths for advancement. Ensure a high level of morale within the division.

  • Review proposed contracts to determine significant parameters, time schedules and mileposts, and define the major task areas.

  • Guide project managers in the planning and development of the project scopes, procedures, schedules and budgets necessary to produce work of the highest quality.

  • Ensure contractual commitments are met and work is being performed according to the client's instructions. Assist project managers resolving problems and coordinating the final turnover of projects.

  • Be actively involved in civic/professional activities, societies and organizations, and encourage subordinates to become involved in similar activities.

  • Ensure quality control on all projects within the division.

  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the company Health and Safety Plan.

  • Possess aptitude to act as a positive representative of the company and its core values.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required, Master's Degree preferred.

  • Minimum 20 years relevant experience preferably in Roadway design

  • Knowledge of Transportation Planning, NEPA and Traffic Engineering a plus

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration required

  • MDOT prequalification's preferred

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Proficient with software programs (Geopak, Civil 3D, GIS, ArcGIS, etc.) inherent to successful completion of the work.

  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites, complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.

Candidate must listen to clients and provide practical solutions to their problems. Candidate must have excellent verbal and writing skills. Candidates should be accomplished in Microsoft Office applications. Expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
