Responsible for the managerial direction of the Design & Operations Department within the Civil Transportation Division in the Chicagoland area. The position will have oversight of roadway and bridge design and operations that would direct staff accordingly.

Providing work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of the team. Responsible for recruitment, development and retention of staff. Interpret policies, purposes, and goals of organization to staff.

Serves as the technical advisor, provides senior-level input and evaluation on projects. Will demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems. Determines program objectives and requirements, organizes projects and develops standards and guidelines. Summary of key duties:

Key Organization Oversight Areas:

  • Business Development: Pursuit and proposal management, client coordination, overall engagement plan. Clients will vary from DOT's, Toll Authorities to local counties and municipalities.

  • Staffing Assignments: Manage all staff to the highest efficiency and strengths.

  • Quality Assurance: Work with quality manager to refine, manage and enforce QA/QC plan.

  • Performance Reviews and Career Development: 1 on 1 reviews and directly evaluating staff capabilities.

  • Project Management: Mentor PM's on project management.

  • Financial Management: Work with upper management to set, monitor and achieve financial performance metrics.

  • Contract Reviews: Oversight of all new contract reviews.

Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or related field from accredited program. Minimum 8 years related professional experience.

Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.

Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. Previous consulting experience preferred.

VIEW JOBS 10/19/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-17T00:00 Job Description Position Summary Individual is responsible for the development, coordination, and supervision of the transportation function as it relates to the Crown Imports supply chain and logistics functions and personnel. Manages policies, procedures, and measurements tied to supply chain, logistics, distribution and transportation. This role will have a focus on our new Transportation Management System (TMS) tool. This will include participation in the testing, training, rollout and execution of the new tool. Responsibilities * Manages the third party logistics providers including vendor performance, resolution of escalated customer issues, and negotiating problem resolution to reach the best result for Crown's interests. * Develops, implements, and maintains a demurrage management program. Work with other Supply Chain departments to limit Crown's exposure to demurrage and detention payments. * Serves as team lead for transportation carrier management. This includes carrier selection, ensuring rates are competitive, ensuring carriers and warehouses have necessary permits, licenses and certificates of insurance, and manages contract negotiations for both carriers and warehouse providers. * Works with joint venture partners to assure, as appropriate, consistent management of freight rate data bases and to leverage carrier relationships. * Develops and implements carrier performance measurement system. This includes the development of performance metrics and scorecard for each major third party supply chain vendor. * Develops external operational standards for each transportation provider and monitors and enforces those established standards. * Performs network optimization studies and monitors modes of transportation and distribution channels to ensure cost competitiveness and efficient distribution methods. * Supervises payment of vendor invoices including systems and processes to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely accounts. * Supervises and develops Transportation Team members, to include planning and assigning work/responsibilities, developing goals/objectives, and overseeing overall performance. * Works with department personnel to review and identify opportunities for improvement and enhancement regarding supply chain systems and processes. * Assists with special projects, supplier/vendor presentations and other assignments as needed. * Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned Minimum Qualifications * Must have a Bachelor's degree, logistics degree preferred, and extensive rail management experience, or equivalent work experience, and five plus years experience in logistics or related field with at least two years supervisory experience. * Must have excellent quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to translate analytical skills into high level analysis and demand planning. * Logistics knowledge of all modes of transportation and negotiation experience and skills are required. Including knowledge of AAR rules and regulations, shipping laws and tariffs, and import shipping. * Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (or equivalent software) is required. Must be comfortable working with computers and have the ability to learn new software. * Requires excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate well across all levels of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to work with both internal and external customers. Must be able to make decisions independently and recommend viable solutions to problems and issues. * Must have the ability to handle a heavy workload and be able to work under pressure while handling frequent changes in direction, without losing focus. Must be willing to put in whatever time is necessary to get the job done, including time after normal business hours and weekends as needed. * Must be willing and able to travel as needed. * Must be willing to learn and acquire new skills and abilities. Preferred Qualifications * ERP/TMS experience is desirable (SAP preferred). Physical Requirements * Must be at least 21 years of age.
