By joining our District Four Equipment Section as a Transportation Auto/Truck Technician I in Hardin County, you'll have the opportunity to perform general maintenance and repairs on automotive, medium, and/or heavy equipment such as, replacing batteries, head and taillights, repairing and rotating tires, and changing filters and belts; and performs other duties as assigned.

Holders of the Transportation Auto/Truck Technician I position will complete tasks such as:

  • Changing oil and hydraulics fluids.

  • Maintain equipment during snow and ice operations.

  • Inspects and analyzes vehicles and equipment for electrical repairs and service.

  • Completes repairs and servicing reports.

  • Monitor and track equipment on the computer

Holders of this job title will obtain:

  • Learns to operate basic automotive and/or equipment.

  • Inventory control experience.

  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment.

  • Cultivate and promote safety skills.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of automotive/equipment/truck repair technical experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Employees in this job classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority within six months of employment in the job classification, documentation that he or she possesses a valid Class A commercial driver's license. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification (s) or other credentials.

Incumbents working in this job title perform work in a repair facility or field setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
