The Transportation Assistant is responsible for downloading and reviewing orders from the computer system, make adjustments to finished goods inventory within the computer system, create all documents required for the transportation of goods and contact transportation partners to arrange pick up times.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Download orders from Batchmaster computer system following processes for inventory assignment to each order based on customer demands.
Move and/or make adjustments to finished goods inventory within the computer system
Create documents such as bills of ladings, and assist with airway bills, commercial invoices, NAFTA and other export declarations with accuracy.
Copy Material Safety Data Sheets, Technical Bulletins and obtain Certifications of Product as required by the customer
Ensure orders are stamped by Lab personnel as necessary
Obtain and provide answers to questions regarding product completion, location and/or quantities on hand
Estimate freight charges for Sales and Customer Service as requested
Work with the Shipping personnel to clarify warehouse location of product.
Consolidate Bills of Lading for economic and prudent movement of freight.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Two years of college or High School diploma with 1year verifiable experience in the industry.
One to three years of experience in a shipping facility requiring understanding of tariff rules, Material Safety Data Sheets, IATA, and IMDG Papers
Import/Export hazardous material experience
AES Filing experience preferred
Excellent computer skills and other office machinery (fax and copier)
Excellent math skills including understanding of metric measure conversions such as volume, weight and temperature preferred
Ability to multi-task in a high volume environment

Formulates and manages a transportation budget in excess of $12M annually. * Develop, lead and implement transportation strategies for both the Enterprise and individual Business Units to obtain cost savings opportunities and efficiencies. * Manages all transportation related KPI's to include on-time pickups, on-time delivery & transit times, tonnage reports, freight costs per unit, freight as % of sales, claims as a % of freight costs, accessorial charges, etc. to assure highest customer service at the lowest costs. * Leads a team responsible for shipment tracings of customer orders, filing of freight claims, transportation spend, and associated cost savings or cost avoidance opportunities. * Establishes, monitors, and maintains customer shipment routing tables within Oracle ERP system ensuring 24-hour and 48-hour delivery commitments to all customers are met. Secures expedited delivery services, as necessary, for customer shipments and stock transfers. * Establishes and maintains reliable 3rd party freight payment vendors for prompt bill payment and post-audit freight bill activities. * Ensures compliance and maintains all hazardous material files in accordance with applicable U.S. laws related to storage and transportation activity. Trains personnel as needed/required. Keeps hazardous material certification and trainer status current. * Possesses in-depth knowledge of U.S. DOT, IATA and ICAO regulations, 49CFR hazardous chemical regulations, freight classification procedures, loss and damage claim procedures, and other various state and federal regulations. * Responsible for staying current and updating internal personnel and external business partners on all transportation and traffic regulation changes and pending legislation changes. * Remains knowledgeable of industry Best Practices, new trends and technologies, for application in BIAH US Logistics/Transportation network. * Works with administrative personnel as it relates to desktop shipping for letters & documents at the corporate and regional level. Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree in Logistics or related field from an accredited institution required. * At least five (5) years management experience. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills. * Ability to effectively negotiate and influence. * Possess in-depth knowledge of hazardous material regulations. * Excellent knowledge base and prior hands-on experience with small parcel transportation a plus. * An understanding of LTL & FTL transportation. * Computer proficiency required in Excel.
