JOB TITLE: Transportation Administrator
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervisor of Transportation and Fleet Maintenance
The Transportation Administrator assists with the facilitation of safe and efficient bus transportation operations for Henry County Public Schools, to include coordination of training programs, drug and alcohol testing programs, bus routing, monitoring road safety and weather-related concerns, absence management and communication with employees and parents.
The employee must have extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of school transportation; comprehensive knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of large scale operations; comprehensive knowledge of business practices applicable to transportation; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, parents and the general public. The Transportation Administrator will provide supervision in the absence of the Supervisor of Transportation and Fleet Maintenance.
Manage and supervise the driver's training program, maintain records, and track individual training process of all applicants.
In coordination with the Human Resources Department, coordinate screening of new and current employees to include mandatory DOT testing and annual physicals.
Regularly observe school bus drivers on-the-road to monitor for appropriate driving practices and address safety concerns.
Assure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding school bus safety, training, reporting and employment requirements.
Manage school bus evacuation drills.
Manage student ridership count program.
Manage all routing for Henry County Public Schools including, but not limited to, daily routing, CCL, SPED, McKinney Vento, Mid-day runs and activity runs, to ensure pupil safety and efficiency.
Manage the substitute driver/aide program to ensure daily coverage.
Coordinate and manage the assignment of trained drivers for all approved trips.
Respond to vehicular accidents and incidents of vandalism.
Coordinate the use and working conditions of video cameras on school buses, including pulling videos as needed for review and reporting cameras in need of repair.
Coordinate meetings of the Accident Review Board.
Monitor road and weather conditions to provide valuable feedback for pupil safety.
Evaluate and respond to parent and citizen concerns regarding pupil transportation while managing conflict effectively. Notify Human Resources of personnel-related concerns, and communicate effectively with all school personnel.
Attend School Board meetings as necessary.
Perform duties of substitute school bus driver as needed.
Perform related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Preferred experience includes experience in supervision and management, customer service, and transportation operations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of telephone, two-way radio, and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capabilities to effectively use and operate various office equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine are necessary. Some standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of or willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia within six months of employment. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must pass physical examination as prescribed by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must maintain satisfactory driving record from the Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.
