Transport Systems Engineer

Great Plains Communications is looking for an experienced Transport Systems Engineer to join our growing team in the Blair, NE area.

This position will assist with the entry, design and administration of network elements, and circuits into the circuit inventory application. Will perform support tasks related to the various GPC Transport network systems.

Will troubleshoot and administer the various Transport Network systems.

Will use the systems to provide support to the Transport and CO Engineering teams, also including IPE, CATV, NOC, and PMO. Will use the systems to monitor the performance of the network and communicate any issues to the Transport Network Manager.

Duties Include:

¨ Supports the administration of the circuit inventory application.

¨ Supports the circuit inventory application on a daily basis to ensure it is accurate and up to date.

¨ Builds equipment inventory, networks and circuits in the application.

¨ Assists in the service order creation and workflow assignment processes.

¨ Handles any change orders that may need done in the circuit inventory application.

¨ Provides training to other employees who may need or request it.

¨ Works with various departments to add their equipment into the circuit inventory application if necessary.

¨ Works with TAC in troubleshooting any related issues.

¨ Provides support for various departments by using the appropriate NMS and systems tools

¨ Supports the NOC with SLA reporting for wireless mobility carrier customers.

¨ Uses the appropriate NMS to perform bulk configuration changes and device backups and restores.

¨ Uses system tools for network capacity monitoring.

¨ Uses NMS for investigation of circuit designs and device configurations.

¨ Maintains and manages device naming standards for entry into these systems.

¨ Helps verify complicated maintenance notifications using the specific NMS platforms.

¨ Manages and maintains the Blair spare and inventory equipment

¨ Works to keep the purchase orders coming into Blair organized and ready for deployment.

¨ Ensures optics are stocked at a reasonable level for use on projects and orders.

¨ Orders inventory and spare equipment as needed to make sure we are covered for urgent installations or outage situations.

¨ Serves as a POC for shipping and receiving items in Blair.

¨ Submits and tracks any equipment RMA requests that come through the Blair office.

¨ Prepares and distributes customer premise equipment for use on circuit orders and projects

¨ Provides general support for various departments.

¨ Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Undergraduate college or university degree or equivalent desired along with 3-5 years of experience.
