  • GENERAL SUMMARY

  • The Transport/KidCom Transfer Center Manager provides leadership and oversight to the transport team and transfer center. Responsible for the timely and efficient management of transfer of emergent and non-emergent patient referrals from other facilities to CHKD. Reports to the Director of Operations Center and Transport.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as the super-user for communication systems, reporting, staff education and system upgrades.

  • Works closely with the OMDs, medical control MDs, and Trauma Manager to ensure optimal transfer processes occur.

  • Provides developmentally appropriate developmental, psychosocial, and clinical care respective to the assigned patient population and acuity.

  • Maintains overall responsibility for designated service operations with 24-hour accountability.

  • Delegates, supervises personnel, solves problems, makes decisions and develops systems and processes for successful integration and implementation.

  • Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other negotiated/assigned activities.

  • Maintains transport equipment and fleet and provides capital budget and justifications for replacement of equipment and fleet.

  • Seeks guidance from the Director and/or upper management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice.

  • Strong understanding of and ability to interpret and apply VAOEMS regulations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • PALS, TNCC/PHTLS/ITLS, ACLS and NRP required.

  • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

  • Must be able to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and Functional Capacity Exam, and annually thereafter.

  • Must have one of the following:

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license;

  • Current certification as an EMT-P in the Commonwealth of Virginia;

  • Current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field required.

  • Healthcare/management experience preferred.

  • RN: Minimum of 3 years of NICU, PICU, and/or pediatric ED experience required.

  • Paramedic: Minimum of 3 years of EMS experience required. Must have valid Virginia State Operators license with acceptable driving records and satisfactory completion of either an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) or Defensive Driving certification. Approximately 3-4 months on-the-job orientation is necessary in order to gain proficiency in providing a variety of clinical treatments to critically ill infants and children.

  • RT: Minimum 1 year of NICU, PICU, or transport experience required.

  • Possesses excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to plan, establish and maintain a professional work environment.

  • Ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational functions.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to direct subordinates and delegate tasks.

  • Technical and professional knowledge unique to the business and/or clinical operations of the designated services (EMS, Financial, Human Resource, Information Systems, Risk, Governance, Regulations, Planning and Marketing).

  • Increased Security Clearance Required for Job Role: FBI finger printing, criminal background, educational and personal reference check verification and clearance required for identified roles.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
