Position Summary:

A designated member of the transplant team who is responsible for coordination of services necessary to determine suitability of potential recipients for stem cell transplantation, donor candidacy for stem cell donation and suitability of patients to be treated with cellular therapy. Maintains an active role in educating the hospital and public about current information regarding stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy. Works with patients and families beginning with the evaluation phase for transplantation and through admission in a compassionate and tactful manner to facilitate access to and provide continuity of care.

Major Responsibilities:

1.In collaboration with BMT and Cellular Therapy physicians, arranges for pre-transplant work-up of potential candidates of allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplant and cellular therapies including chimeric antigen receptor t-cell immunotherapy, (CAR-T).

2.Provides necessary information to physicians or advanced practice providers, (APPs) utilizing transplant service protocols to assist with the determination of eligibility and suitability of all potential recipients and donors.

3.Manages unrelated donor searches, utilizing MatchSource with the National Marrow Donor Program, (NMDP). Manages related donor searches, including evaluation of all potential related donors.

4.Works with multidisciplinary teams, including the blood donor center, the stem cell lab, and the inpatient unit to develop timelines to support the patient's progress through complex therapies.

5.Provides patient and family education through all phases of BMT and Cellular Therapy including discharge planning for the BMT and Cellular Therapy patient.

6.Maintains and updates required data as mandated by the NMDP. Complies with all policies and procedures as directed by the NMDP, the Center for International Bone Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR), the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, (FACT), and other regulatory agencies associated with BMT and Cellular Therapies.

7.Participates in regularly scheduled case conferences.

8.Organizes and submits required documentation to support insurance approval and/or donor clearance.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

1.Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

2.Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license and registration.

Preferred:

1.Master's degree in Nursing

2.OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

1.Three to five years tertiary care nursing.

2.Excellent interpersonal skills.

3.Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

Preferred:

1.Previous Hematology/Oncology and/or BMT and Cellular Therapy experience.
