JOB TYPE: Full-Time

LOCATION: Hybrid (Pomona, CA Office 1 day/week, Site visits as needed)

COMPENSATION: Up to $160k+ starting salary for level 3 candidate, level 4 candidates could see starting salary of $200k, other compensation to be discussed during offer stage.

POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a talented and experienced Transmission Line Design Engineer to join the Paxon team and lead the design and analysis of high-voltage transmission lines. As a Transmission Line Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing innovative and efficient solutions that ensure the safe and reliable transport of electricity across vast distances. Your expertise will play a crucial role in advancing our energy infrastructure and delivering sustainable power solutions.

What you will be responsible for: (Disclaimer: The lists below are not all inclusive)

You will be working directly under the supervision of the Electrical Operations Manager

  • Transmission Line Design:

  • Lead the conceptual and detailed design of high-voltage transmission lines, considering factors such as tower configurations, conductor selection, insulation, and line hardware.

  • Utilize engineering software and tools to perform load flow analysis, voltage drop calculations, and electromagnetic interference studies to ensure optimal design outcomes.

  • Structural Analysis:

  • Perform structural analysis and simulations to ensure the stability and resilience of transmission line structures, including lattice towers, monopoles, and foundations.

  • Evaluate the impact of wind, ice, seismic events, and other external factors on the performance of transmission line systems.

  • Material and Component Selection:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to select appropriate materials, insulators, conductors, and hardware that meet performance requirements while considering cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.

  • Code Compliance and Regulatory Standards:

  • Ensure that all transmission line designs adhere to industry codes, standards, and regulations, including NESC, IEEE, IEC, and regional grid codes.

  • Stay informed about updates in regulations and apply them to design practices.

  • Technical Documentation:

  • Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, design drawings, and reports that document the transmission line design process, calculations, assumptions, and recommendations.

  • Project Management:

  • Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that transmission line projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Coordinate with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and utility companies, to address design-related inquiries.

  • Innovation and Optimization:

  • Identify opportunities for innovation in transmission line design, such as the integration of advanced materials, improved tower configurations, and smart grid technologies.

  • Construction Support:

  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to queries, reviewing contractor submissions, and conducting site visits as needed.

  • Professional Development:

  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in transmission line design, structural engineering, and renewable energy technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

You must have the following: (Minimum)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field with a focus on power systems or structural engineering.

  • 5 years of transmission line engineering experience in the electric utility industry

  • Demonstrated experience in the design and analysis of high-voltage transmission lines, including familiarity with design standards and software tools.

  • Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE) and structural analysis tools.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills for technical documentation and project coordination.

  • Complies with, enforces safety standards, and understands client Transmission and Contractor Safety Handbook requirements.

If you have the following it will be a big plus: (Preferred)

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in electrical or civil engineering.
