SEA Contract base salary ranges from $67,773.00 to $133,317 DOE

Our District:

The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

Our Community:

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our "backyard" is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

Sultan High School is seeking applicants for a special education teacher. The successful candidate will provide specially designed instruction in a range of subjects for high school students with mild to severe disabilities. We want teachers who are devoted to students and committed to a continuing program of personal and professional growth. The successful candidate will work with a dedicated staff committed to meeting the needs of all students in a team management and shared decision-making environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach students how to learn in a variety of settings

  • Understanding of post high school transitions (18-21)

  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, board policies, and administrative regulations

  • Assure students are prepared to live and work independently or with minimal coaching support

  • Align all instruction to student transition plans in preparing such lessons

  • Provide various learning approaches for meaningful learning experiences for all students at all levels

  • Focus on inclusive practices (instruction, assessment, and learning)

  • Use measurable goals and data driven results for continuous progress to meet proficient levels of achievement in the areas of social development, self-awareness, self-management, community engagement, independent living, self-regulation, self-advocacy

  • Collaborate with other members of the staff and participate in the continuous improvement process in accordance with district requirements

  • Develop inter-local agreements with businesses, community organizations, social services, post-secondary schools, and other school districts

  • Develop and implement post high school transition plans

  • Use preparation/planning time to include participating as a team member (grade level, department, building, etc.) in the continuous improvement process

  • Maintain good rapport with students, parents, and staff

  • Participate in both building and district based PLC groups

  • Provide students with opportunities to become technologically competent

  • Provide instruction in a variety of settings (community, school, work)

  • Develop assessment tools that evaluate students by the same standards to measure student learning/growth

  • Establish and enforce professional work, play, and social behavior norms

  • Create a positive, safe and supportive learning environment

  • Provide cultural awareness and sensitivity opportunities

  • Train students to use self-management skills

  • Provide students with opportunities to work in collaboration with others

  • Connect extended content learning opportunities into life experiences

  • Partnership with parents, families , business and community leaders in student learning/success

  • Remain current in subject area(s)

  • Is a reflective practitioner

  • Use professional growth plan

  • Participate in continuous refinement of the instructional program and the overall learning environment

POSITION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful teaching experience with a wide range of special needs students

  • Demonstrated interest, commitment, and ability to work with students who have varied remedial academic and/or special education needs

  • Ability to develop and maintain community partnerships

  • Genuine desire to work with special needs students and help them succeed, both academically and socially

  • Knowledge of autism helpful

  • Successful teaching experience at the secondary level preferred

  • Skills and knowledge necessary to provide targeted academic interventions

  • Evidence of strong classroom management skills

  • Evidence of strong instructional skills

  • Evidence of a caring and compassionate skill set for fragile students

  • Ability to communicate positively and appropriately with students, parents, business leaders and staff

  • Knowledge in the creation and execution of IEP related documentation and record keeping

  • Experience/training integrating special needs students in the regular classroom

  • Experience involving home and community in the school setting

  • Training/experience integrating technology into the curriculum

  • Ability to maintain proper attendance by arriving to work on time on a daily basis

  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate curriculum

  • Ability to assess student learning in a variety of ways

  • Ability to write IEPs

  • Knowledge of IEP Online preferred

  • Evidence of leadership, positive human relations and organizational skills

  • Successful teaching experience with a wide range of special needs students

  • Demonstrated interest, commitment, and ability to work with students who have varied remedial academic and/or special education needs

  • Genuine desire to work with special needs students and help them succeed, both academically and socially

EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, FORMAL TRAINING:

  • Valid Washington State Teacher Certificate with endorsement in Special Education

  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance

  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
