Southern Regional Medical Center opened to patients on April 19, 1971, as a small, community hospital in Riverdale, GA. Today, the hospital is licensed for 331 beds and owned by Prime Healthcare, an award-winning health system that owns and operates 44 hospitals in 14 states. Southern Regional is one of 14 not-for-profit members of the Prime Healthcare Foundation.

Southern Regional Medical Center serves residents throughout Riverdale and the surrounding region. The hospital has been recognized on both state and national levels for quality patient care. Southern Regional is home to a Certified Primary Stroke Center, an accredited Chest Pain Center, a Women's Life Center, labor and delivery suites, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for newborns who need special care, Emergency Services, Imaging Services, and more. Southern Regional also operates Spivey Station, a diagnostic center located nearby in Stockbridge, GA.

Responsibilities

Transitional Year (TY) RESIDENCY PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Program Director duties will be consistent with ACGME accreditation requirements. The Program Director will have academic faculty appointment through the affiliate medical school. The type of such appointment depends on the experience and academic qualifications including research and scholarly activities.

TY RESIDENCY

Under the direction of the Regional VP Medical Education (RVP), the Program Director is responsible for the general administration, curriculum planning, recruitment, and teaching and supervision of Residency Program. The Program Director establishes the strategic direction of the Program and is responsible for the standards, quality and reputation of such. The Program Director is expected to support integration of the Program with physician practices and hospital clinical services in a manner that enhances value and quality, and that promotes an optimal environment for professional practice and medical education.

Responsibilities of the Program Director are as follows:

Dedicate no less than 50% (at least 20 hours per week) of his or her professional effort to the administrative and educational activities of the Program.

  • Core Program Clinical Teaching

  • General Administration

  • GME Committees/Meetings

  • GME Lecturing/Teaching Conferences

  • GME Recruiting/Interviewing

  • GME Research/Scholarly Activity

  • Resident Evaluation/Monitoring

  • Program Evaluation

Qualifications

  • ABMS or equivalent board certification in Internal Medicine

  • APD or PD experience preferred

  • Post-residency clinical experience with additional experience as a faculty member with an accredited residency program required

  • Experience in GME leadership as Program Director/ Associate Program Director/Core Faculty for a minimum of three years with strong record of academic achievement

  • Excellent leadership, clinical and communication skills
