Summary of Position

The Academy is seeking a full-time, highly qualified Transitional Kindergarten Aide committed to serving a diverse student body and delivering high quality, inclusive instruction for the 24-25 School Year.

Our Classroom Aides work as part of a dynamic team that includes close collaboration with other teachers, the academic dean, and Transitional Kindergarten Teacher to deliver strong academic instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Run small group instruction in phonics or math lessons with students.

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and materials

  • Assist lead teacher in creating an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity

  • Administer and grade assessments

  • Use the provided curriculum to plan and address the learning objectives.

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior during lunch/recess settings to ensure a safe and positive environment

  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and restorative practices of the school.

  • Alert the teacher immediately to any injuries or special needs of individual students

  • Check student work for compliance with teacher's instructions

  • Assist in implementing all classroom policies and reinforce the reward/discipline system

  • Help maintain order in the classroom and monitor students to keep them on task

  • Perform office assistant tasks such as photocopying, filing, and phone calls as required

  • Supervise morning breakfast

  • Supervise recess and lunch

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.

  • Participate in department/grade-level/special education, school, and parent meetings.

  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must pass a criminal background check and TB test clearance

  • Experience with students in a school setting is preferred.

Skills & Requirements

  • Be punctual for work and avoid making appointments during scheduled work time

  • Maintain professional relations and show patience with parents, teachers and other staff

  • Maintain confidentiality about student behavior, classroom, or family life

  • Supervise/lead the classroom if the teacher is unexpectedly out or pulled away Follow established procedures and processes as found in the Family and Employee Handbooks

  • Experience working in youth programs, school setting or non-profit preferred

  • Experience in working with high needs students a plus

Time Commitment

  • 11 month position
  • 40-hour work week

Work Performed Outside of the Professional Work Day

Required attendance at events outside of the professional workday include:

  • Back-to-School Night

  • Family Home Visits

  • Family/Teacher Conferences (as needed)

  • Open House

Additional Obligations (Teachers receive compensation for participation)

It's critical that students and families be provided with authentic learning experiences and opportunities to connect to each other outside of the regular school day (Such as literacy nights, student exhibitions, etc.). We anticipate that teachers will need to attend only 1 or 2 of these types of events throughout the course of the year. On rare occasions, a teacher may be asked to attend a third event.

Aides will be provided the time and resources to effectively prepare for these events during the school day, and in most cases, will receive compensation (at the evening rate) for participation. In addition, teachers will be notified long before the event, and in many cases will be able to select the event option.

Compensation

Based on experience - $20/hr onwards
