William Paterson University invites applications for the 14-week semester (fall and spring), part-time position of Culinary Arts Instructor within the division of College of Education - Transition Program.

We seek a creative, patient, and passionate culinary arts instructor to teach in a transition program for 18-21-year-olds with disabilities (with IEPs/504s). The culinary instructor will train students on quality food preparation, preparing menu recipes, proper sanitary habits, cleaning and food storage procedures, and presentation and plating techniques. The culinary instructor will also manage food inventory and equipment and develop ways to streamline operations while ensuring high food preparation and education standards. Candidates should have at least two years of professional food preparation experience, including some instructional and staff training roles.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Part-time: 5-7 hours per week for 14-week semester (fall and spring)

  • Instruct two classes, 2 ½ hours each, twice a week.

  • Attend bi-weekly staff meeting.

  • Perform student assessments.

  • Ensure proper food preparation and sanitary clean-up.

  • Train students so they can receive the Servsafe Food Handler Certificate.

  • Monitor inventory levels and request more supplies as necessary.

  • Inspect tools and equipment and request replacement or repairs when required.

  • Teach students about supplies, pricing, menu planning, safety, and sanitation.

  • Teach students about culinary terminology, food cuisines, and general food knowledge.

  • Assumes other related duties/responsibilities as delegated or assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.

  • Completion of culinary arts program preferred.

  • 2+ years of professional food preparation experience.

  • Instructional or training experience preferred.

  • ServSafe certificate

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Experience with differently abled student populations.

  • Onsite instruction in our Wayne, NJ campus is required.
