William Paterson University invites applications for the 14-week semester (fall and spring), part-time position of Child Development Instructor within the division of College of Education - Transition Program.

We seek a creative, patient, and passionate child development instructor to teach in a transition program for 18-21-year-olds with disabilities (with IEPs/504s). The child development instructor will facilitate student learning about child development, with particular attention to the pre-kindergarten years, and the skills for classroom assistance. The child development instructor will also help prepare students in developing the reading, writing, and math knowledge and skills to achieve passing scores on the ParaPro Assessment.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Part-time: 5-7 hours per week for 14-week semester (fall and spring)

  • Instruct class meetings twice a week in 2 ½ hour sessions.

  • Teach students about physical, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects of childhood development, with a focus on the early years (birth-age 6)

  • Teach students about the role and responsibilities of the paraprofessional as classroom and teacher assistant, including the importance of the health and safety of children, support for children's positive development, and professionalism in the workplace.

  • Provide support for student development of the reading, writing, and math knowledge and skills to achieve passing scores on the ParaPro Assessment.

  • Attend bi-weekly staff meeting.

  • Perform student assessments.

  • Teach students about lesson planning.

  • Assumes other related duties/responsibilities as delegated or assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • Baccalaureate degree in education, child development, or related field required, master's degree preferred.

  • Two (2) + years of experience in education.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Experience with differently abled student populations.

  • Onsite instruction in our Wayne, NJ campus is required.
