Position Summary
This position provides support for 8th grade students who are exhibiting academic problems related to missing assignments, low grades, attendance concerns and or behavioral referrals as they ready to transition from middle school to high school. Additionally, this position will work with teachers and counselors to support parents and students to improve attendance, homework completion, behavior, and study habits.

Essential Functions
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
Support teachers, counselors, and parents with addressing academic, attendance, and behavior concerns.
Assists in developing instructional transition plans for students.
Provide support in crisis response and de-escalation as directed by supervisors.
Provides school transition support to students on small group and one-to-one basis.
Participates in educational support teams.
Provides behavior management and supervision for students.
Assist in developing individual plans for academics, attendance, and socio-emotional success for students.
Serve as a resource for students in finding information for academic success, mental health supports, drug addiction, housing support, and other potential needs.
Monitor and mentor students with school transition support needs.
Monitor attendance, grades, and assignments of students with school transition support needs and collect data for after school program.
Facilitate after school program using HOPS (Homework, Organization, and Planning Skills).
Supervise after school snack time prior to students beginning their HOPS session.
Direct volunteers.
Conduct home visits with counselor or administrator.
Mentor students.
Work collaboratively with SAIL transition specialist
Implement attendance procedures and make attendance calls to families.
Other related duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience
Associates degree or higher (attach diploma); OR
Completion of two years post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48 semester units (attach transcripts); OR
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) AND
Meet a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment or para-professional certificate program, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, as appropriate, reading/language arts, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements
Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass SafeSchools training modules as assigned.
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Desired Qualifications
Related experience in an educational setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education, training, and/or experience.)

Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; modern office practices and procedures; letter writing, correct language usage; receptionist, telephone and record keeping/filing systems; computer hardware and software programs and their usage; modern office equipment; safety and first aid practices and procedures.

Skills to: apply student de-escalation strategies in a variety of unique situations and environments; transition smoothly from one task to another, through multiple environments within a school day.

Ability to: understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; maintain appropriate appearance and attire; maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality, as set forth in Board policy; greet stakeholders; provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies, procedures and other pertinent information; operate maintain and arrange for repair various office/school equipment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds; interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and community members and resolves conflict in a professional manner; maintain records; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding, make mathematical calculations accurately; follow oral and written instructions; practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversity.
