Position Summary

Perform professional and technical planning work required for developing public transit routes, schedules, and operator assignments; develop, analyze, maintain, and use statistical data for transit service forecasting, designing, tracking, and reporting to assist in optimizing public satisfaction, cost efficiency, service effectiveness and operator satisfaction; perform customized geographic analysis and design in support of assigned department and provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to higher level supervisory or management staff.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, computer science, information systems, geography, planning, or geographical information systems (GIS); and

Four (4) years experience in data analysis, route planning and analysis, or operations management.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Principles and practices of transportation planning, operations management, or similar field

  • Computer software and GIS software and databases

  • Advanced software programs, and related technologies, including transit route planning and scheduling software such as Trapeze or Hastus

  • Methods and techniques of research and data analysis as they apply to scheduling and routing

  • Desktop publishing experience

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Plan and coordinate research and analysis as well as field surveys and investigations

  • Perform research and prepare appropriate analysis

  • Develop basic programs and procedures using computer software

  • Use complex computer systems for planning and scheduling transit service, developing employee work assignments and/or modeling transportation systems

  • Develop and prepare schedules

  • Develop and prepare outlines, materials, and audio/visual tools

  • Interpret and explain City policies and procedures

  • Present technical issues clearly in written or oral form

  • Summarize findings and make relevant decisions and recommendations

  • Use computers, software, printers, and plotters to produce documents, materials, reports, etc

  • Communicate effectively to the general public, neighborhood and community groups and other public interest groups

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
