Summary
Reporting to the Transit Planning Manager, the purpose of the position is to support planning, development, implementation, and administration of public transit services.
Essential Functions
Researches and gathers information related to transit service and planning; prepares reports, maps, charts, data, presentations and/or other materials derived from research and analysis.
Assesses and reports on transit system performance by collecting, analyzing, synthesizing, and reporting data in monthly performance reports, internal service performance reports, ridership reports, and more.
Generates maps and analyzes spatial data.
Collects and analyzes demographic data.
Conducts mandated data reporting (i.e., National Transit Database reporting)
Facilitates and helps implement new transit service packages.
Assists with project outreach regarding systemwide service changes.
Works with staff on multimodal transportation projects.
Manages bus stop inventory and maintenance using ArcGIS and other internal project management software.
Identifies and recommends systemwide route and stop improvements.
Supports coordination between Town Departments, municipal partners, funding agencies, and regional transit service providers.
Supports communications and project work with internal and external stakeholders.
Identifies and helps implement processes and practices encouraging, supporting, and promoting effective, comprehensive, inclusive, and meaningful public outreach and engagement.
Collaborates and communicates with Town departments including Public Works, Office of Mobility & Greenways, Planning, and more.
Helps prepare presentation materials, reports, and proposals to interdepartmental committees, customers, and community groups to provide updates on transit service, plans, and policies.
Supports the Town's sustainability goals by identifying opportunities for transportation demand management and related alternative transportation options joint programming opportunities.
Helps identify and acquire federal, state, and local transportation grant opportunities.
Represent Chapel Hill Transit and develop positive relationships with community stakeholders and regional transit service providers
Participates in relevant meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, professional associations, and reviews relevant publications to remain current on transit planning principles, practices, and new developments in the field.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience

Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, and a satisfactory driving record.
Applicable federal, state, and local laws, policies, codes, funding, and regulations related to transit, transportation, and land use planning.
Public transit best practices, trends, and emerging technologies.
Principles and methods of qualitative and quantitative research, data collection, and analysis.
Principles and methods of spatial data collection and analysis.
Principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
