As a Transit Operator you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service while efficiently and safely transporting passengers to their proper destinations in a courteous, safe and timely manner. As you create, promote, and maintain relationships with passengers and fellow employees, you will promote a positive partnership through your service to Longview, Kelso and the surrounding community.

At least 5 years driving experience with a valid driver's license

Ability to pass an FTA drug screen and a DOT physical

Paid training to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Training wage of $19.16/hour
Wage range of $21.29/hour - $26.07/hour
Annual pay step increases
Guaranteed minimum of 27 hours per week
Two days off per week (may not be consecutive)

Safety sensitive positions will be subject to the random drug and alcohol policy per the Department of Transportation federal regulations. A pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check will be conducted.
Essential Job Duties
Being at your assigned location on time, in uniform, and ready to work.
Operate public transit buses on specified routes and time schedules, collect passenger fares, issue and collect transfers, and provide fare and schedule information to passengers.
Provide information to passengers on buses or at transit facilities and stops, concerning transit routes, city street locations, points of interest, time schedules, public buildings and business locations; and provide basic first-aid care when conditions warrant.
Ensure passenger safety by enforcing transit passenger rules.
Assist passengers with physical disabilities and secure wheelchair passengers.
Care for and turn in lost-and-found articles.
Additional duties include vehicle pre-trip checking; replenishing supplies
on transit buses and driver relief vehicles; properly completing accident/incident reports; properly completing timesheets; completing employment and transit related training; participating in the Guest Rider program; deliver or pick up transit vehicles from the transit base, repair facilities, or locations on routes; participate in special events and/or operate buses on special routes that involve or promote public transit; review, understand, and adhere to City and transit policies and procedures; participate in meetings with supervisors and general staff meetings. Perform other duties as assigned.

As a first step in the recruitment process, candidates will be invited to a "Day in the Life of a Bus Driver" introductory session.
Candidates that are invited to continue the recruitment process will be asked to take a written and video exam. Final candidates will then be invited to an oral interview.
Candidates selected from the oral interview that do not have all CDL requirements will be invited to sign a Conditional Offer of Employment where they must complete
3)Sign the City of Longview CDL Training Payback Agreement.
These items will be required prior to receiving a Final Contingent Offer of Employment. Candidates successfully hired after a Final Contingent Offer will be reimbursed for their CLP testing fees and DOT physical exam.
Selected candidates must be available to attend training daily Monday Friday, and Saturday if needed.
Transit Operators typically begin as an Extra Board Operator and are expected to drive any shift and any route including evenings, some holidays, weekends, mornings, and split shifts on the five days of service they bid to work.
Extra Board Operator schedules can change with little or no notice and will vary from day to day.
More senior Transit Operators work set weekly schedules.
RiverCities Transit's current operating hours begin at 5:30 a.m. and continue until 7:30 p.m.
