The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Transit Health, Safety and Skills Training Specialist. Under general supervision, the employee performs professional and technical work developing and administering health/safety programs and skills training programs for operations of the Transit Division.
Work involves, planning, organizing, directing and enforcing programs to ensure adherence to local, state and federal work place environmental, health and safety regulations by City employees. Working in conjunction with Risk Management and the Transit Director, develops and implements occupational health and safety plans, inspection programs, tracking programs and safety, and skill development training programs; does related work as required. The work of this class involves planning, coordinating and implementing safety plans, inspection programs, safety and skills training programs for the purposes of providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees in the Transit Division.
Ensures compliance with applicable governmental regulations and to minimize or eliminate employee exposure to unsafe conditions and practices. Coordinates safety training for Transit employees utilizing City developed training materials. May arrange and or facilitate third party training where applicable.
Requirements for Education and Skills:
graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, and three to five years of verifiable experience in the Occupational Health and Safety field. The employee must possess thorough knowledge of Occupational health and safety regulations; thorough knowledge of safety programs; thorough knowledge of loss prevention principles and practices; ability to develop and implement safety plan and programs and to coordinate and/or conduct safety training programs; ability to present facts and recommendations in verbal and written form; ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks; ability to take independent, immediate, forceful action to remedy unsafe work conditions or practices; working knowledge of building and life safety codes is desirable; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; tact and courtesy; good judgement; accuracy; thoroughness and dependability; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Employee must acquire and/or maintain a valid Class B with PS endorsements commercial driver's license issued by the State of Tennessee. Pre-employment DOT physical and drug screening required.
